Ineos are a generous team. They take, but they also give (time to the breakaway).
in livebetting bernal is still the favourite behind vanhouke and battaglin, so maybe it still is possible for the peloton to win the stage.

No contradicting goals for the likes of Moscon, Bettiol and Sagan, who might have had an eye on the stage,so GC men will be better protected. Does that mean smaller gaps between them, or what difference there might be between their abilities on this route are more deeply emphasised?

It seems every GC team has been instructed by their DS, that this being the first day after a rest day, they are riding a defensive stage.

If any of them had real plans in the finale, they would want to make the race hard on the flat, so that everyone was gassed and some out of position.

Dunno if they just showed the gravel in all Eurosport broadcasts, but it looked hard as tarmac, tightly packed and dry.

It may look like it, but it's still way more exhausting imo, and probably even more so at the speed the peloton is riding.
