The problem is that Tarling should not be going full gas when he has only 3 riders with him, because he just goes too fast on the flat for most riders to bridge. And then there are two teams who would be happy to see Pedersen to win today to boot...

First, its Pedersen not Pederson.

Second, if he doesn't get into the break do you really think Lidl-Trek is going to be able to control a 10km 7.5% climb for their versatile sprinter? I think that's being way too confident on their and Pedersen's abilities.

Its a hard stage for Pedersen to win but the best way is via the peleton. or they could control until the Golden kilometre.

Scaroni said he wanted a 30- or 40-rider group over the summit of the KOM, which suggests they will try to get rid of Pedersen.

If Pedersen is in really good form, he's in a 40 man group.

Of course absolutely not impossible to drop him at all, but there's still time for Trek/Pedersen to come back if they are not too far behind.

Even if they try I think it's a poor strategy because they won't carry firepower over the climb and Pedersen will very likely be able to come back.
Think they will try to pull off Fortunato's Romandie stage win a second time rather than pace the group. But yeah, not exactly a foolproof strategy.

Red Bull should attack the climb to try and get rid of an injured Ayuso incase he becomes a problem later in the race.

Also because it would be funny watching Ayuso having to domestique for Adam Yates with a glum look on his face.
