People don't want to admit or hear this, but crashes are a large part of popularity of cycling. Or let's say "something happening" is the reason for attention. The images of bikes thrown in the air behind a horde of sprinters just crossing the finish line is what we like to see on the front page. And while nobody wants to see riders being put into ambulances, everyone is a fan of flying bikes. Other than abandoning "flat stages" I see no way out of this.
This take baffles me. Maybe the non-riding casual observer "likes to see" crashes but holy hell I hate to see it because I HATE CRASHING and can relate to how much it sucks to crash.

Ok, just to support this a little, search for "Primož Roglič" on youtube. Among top results by number of views, you'll find his 2007 crash in Planica (ski-jumping), the "hay-bale" chrash and the "opi-omi". The Planica crash ways the most viewed Roglič video on youtube for a loong time.
