Tbf in the first twit there is nothing that suggest such a stupid act (at least in the words, the drawing is a bit more explicit) and there have been plenty of palestinian flag on the road held by people smart enough to not try to commit self immolation by cyclist/team car

Sporza has the video of it, by the way. Hadn't seen that on TV

Unacceptable that police wasn't more present when the criminals had advertised their intent.
Even if they did, a cycling race is pretty long you know. I mean, who knows at what exact km they were bound to show up?
I for one am actually pretty amazed that Italian direction were able to capture this on screen.

Congratulations to Kaden Groves for winning the sprint.

Two mass crashes on two different races today, bad day for cycling. Hopefully all cyclists getting injured will recover fast, Rogla lost Jai and that will force the team into rethinking their tactical approach. Kooij could have raced more aggressively instead decided to rather use the brakes to avoid the crash, based on actions of all involved relegation justified. As for the debate if crashes are desired or not, by fans, unfortunately a lot of cycling fans feel that if we eliminate crashes that that would somehow make cycling more soft or to even ruin it. This is one of those historical delusions we will perceive as nonsensical in the future. As for the protests, in a lot of western countries protest are protected by law and play a vital part in protecting healthy democracy, injuring riders on the other hand is not allowed.

Crashes certainly aren't desirable, but I don't think they will ever be eliminated, so it's not like bike helmets where we'll see it happen.

I am sure that the number of crashes and especially the number of injuries in pro peloton will drop substantially in the future. For example Kooij could have resulted to a crash today, fortunately the peloton already matured enough to start rejecting such behaviour as acceptable. That took around half a decade of effort invested, mostly education.

Hm. I am ignorant of how the culture has evolved in the peloton, so I hope you're right. It seems about right. But in other areas such as practically all the teams pushing to be at the front at all times, I think things are just getting worse and worse.

If you look back, half a decade or more, on what a sprinter in Kooij position would do, that *** is not acceptable anymore. Education and relegation helped to turn it around. As for other areas, yeah, we'll get there. Baby steps. It's not like we are in any sort of hurry ATM, that is governing bodies are still not feeling any real heat, it's still considered to be acceptable. Anyway, at minimum it's hurting cycling image and now when big money got involved it will more and more become in everybody interest, to improve the public image of cycling. Otherwise everybody earns less and we can't have that, can we.

Okay, just saw - because of morbid curiosity - that photo of Hollmann's arm Nibali shared, and...
