True, but that is something we only find out when the race is underway. It only can have an indirect influence on pre-race expectations - through the nature of conteders on the startlist.
Ok, I agree, but let's see what happens. It will either be a bomb or a fart. Wait a second...if a bomb is also a fart... it's called diarrea.

On the other hand, the riders make the race. Even if the route is poor, if it's raced with audacity and drama, then it can be a super addition. This week has the potential for fireworks and if they are spectacular this year could go down as a memorable edition.
The problem is that the riders during today's stage wanted to attack and create a great show, but the poor route prevented them from doing this.

Indeed, but now we have week three with such a tight GC and fireworks are assured. If not then it's Vegni's head. He must have gambled on it or else he's stupid.

it's the riders not the route causing this.

You put this peloton on the Puy Mary last year, a group of 30 sprints for 3rd place 5 mins behind the breakaway.

Thankfully, the 3 aliens made sure that wasn't happening. The top 10 would be 12 mins apart if the aliens were racing (the aliens would likely be 1-2 mins apart due to the TTs and lack of climbing)

more like there are no good riders in this race. They couldn't attack because the lack the ability to attack. Compare this to last years TDF. Didn't need massive mountains to get good races

Did you watch the race today? Bernal attacked 95 k out, how early is he supposed to attack in your opinion? Carapaz attacked on a shallow climb 30 k out but sadly he can‘t make the climb steeper.

I disagree, Pogi and Vingegaard would struggle to create huge gaps and a 5% tempo grinder like Dori. The terrain just wasn't favorable.

When it comes to race design, organiser turned this race into a crash fest on stage 9, with the inclusion of sterrato, and by going against Slovenian wishes, to have a MTF in Slovenia, the crash on stage 14, driving the peloton through narrow, wet and cobbled roads, that could likely be avoided too.

Chapeau!

Pog and Remco would have went nuts on today's stage. Vingo would get yelled at by the other two for not having balls by sucking wheels

They are also much better than Bernal. Their attacks would have been all in ones, trying to end the race today

I love how every "riders make the race" argument revolves around 2 riders with a magical "delete peloton" button they can press any time no matter how bad a stage design is.
Do you think that once you get as good at posting in forums as Pogacar and Vingegaard are at riding their bike you will accordingly receive your "delete forum" button?

I had my precious button once, but it was taken from me.

The queen stage is tomorrow and we still don't know who is the best climber of this race. Amazing suspence, right? Vegni likes it so he will give us more of the same next year.

i mean the guys in this race have attacked on 5% slopes numerous times this week, they would probably have a pretty good race on the Puy Mary stage. some of the most aggressive GC riders not named Pogacar are/were in this field. they just haven't had any terrain to race on.

I'd like to point out Pogačar has never dropped anyone on Jabel Jais in the UAE Tour, despite trying. Which coincidently has a simular avarge gradients to Dori.

Saturday is the day. If del Toro shows weakness on Finestre, Carapaz will win this Giro.

So both main contenders eventually DNF'd starting due to crashes sustained in the gravel stage.

Should we have two polls for the rider who was the biggest positive and negative performance this giro?
