Vegni designed some very nice Giro d'Italia routes for Zomegnan already. I think the 2005 Giro d'Italia was drawn from his pen?

So he's responsible for one of the best eras of the race just as much as for the downfall lately.

Let's hope he waves farewell with a nice final parcours!

The fourth and the fifth will be in Calabria. Passo Forcora probably will be in the swiss stage with finish in Cari and there won't be the Alpe di Neggia. The penultimate mountain stage will finish in Piani di Pezze 5km 9,8% above Alleghe (a stage in giro ng 1992 won by Pantani). Last mountain stage will be in Friuli probably with finish in Piancavallo.

This one?

Can't say that I like the rumours. Again a focus of short and steep MTFs intead of proper designed stages.

Remind me how many short and steep MTFs there were this year?

You can also put the climb below directly before Carì, that would be a solid stage.

Can be fine, can be bad. I can't imagine that they will do such a transfer without a rest day between two normal stages.

I'm sure they'll do Giau before Alleghe, question is from which side. Stage 19 is not the best spot for Giau—Falzarego—Piani di Pezze.

The Jonas to Giro rumors are growing. I am still doubtful he does it but a climbing heavy route could only further tempt him.
Isn't it supposed to be kinda the other way around?
Easier route to ensure he is fresher for the Tour?

Although I do believe it's gonna be easier for him to be good for the Tour after the Giro then it is for the Vuelta after the Tour.

According to the last rumours the first mountain stage will be in Abruzzo with arrival on Blockhaus. The aostan stage will arrive in Aosta Pila or in Cervinia. In the third week a stage will finish in Madonna di Campiglio. The last mountain stage will be Gemona - Piancavallo with a double ascent of the friulan climb. Probably we will have only one itt in the second week.

There are three places in Friuli where you really shouldn't have the finish of your final mountain stage, and they are Zoncolan, Lussari and Piancavallo. This will be the third time in the history of the Giro that the final mountain stage is in Friuli, so if they manage to complete the set it will be impressively terrible.

Blockhaus as an early MTF is very good.
Cervinia is really bad if they dont do a couple of climbs in connection with it. Like Saint-Panthaelon just before.
Madonna di Campiglio is only partially good if the use Daone first. Otherwise a total uninspired MTF.

Daone + Madonna di Campiglio is damn good (and underused) combo though, so let's hope!

I think Daone is too short/easy and MdC too long to make a damn good combo. MdC is a 20 km climb with about 7-8 km false flat after the descent from Daone. It could be good but is far from providing the same incentive to attack as Mortirolo, Finestre, Stelvio, Gavia, Fedaia, etc., if they are the penultimate climb.
