I'm quite shocked HTC isn't responding, maybe Cavendish isn't feeling to great after the climb otherwise I don't understand it.

The gap is pretty small, I don't think they are worried yet. Probably taking a little break and re-organising.

Could be a bit like the first stage of last year's Volta - Palmeiras wanted to preserve energy and everybody else to pull back Chuzhda, everybody else thought "what, and drag your superior sprinter to the line? Fat chance".

Yeah seems like it, they're finally working on it now. Guess I got over-excited because something actually happened for once.

even if you weren't it's hardly panic stations. Save energy, guys, your GC position is of no relevance to us, we might need you in the mountains later.

I think it was just that they were a little late reacting to a jump. I saw two Saxo guys talking to each other off the back, but they didn't seem worried at all.

Yes, I did wonder if they were following the Hernandez-Navarro blueprint from last years TDF.

Don't look like staying out for too much longer but here's the riders:

Jan Bakelants (OLO), Leonardo Giordani (FAR), Michal Golas (VCD), Jerome Pineau (QST), Eduard Vorganov (KAT), Ruggero Marzoli (ASA) und Daniele Righi (LAM) plus one more?

I swear I just saw Pinotti stringing out the peloton
I saw it too :S I would have thought they would rest him he has an ok chance of top 10 in the gc, maybe the course is too mountainous for him this year though

Velits was leading Cavendish out when sitting 3rd overall the day before Bola del Mundo, so what makes you think Pinotti will be spared that duty for GC purposes on day 2? Your GC position is secondary to your leadout train position.

What happened to Katusha not doing any stage hunting?

They should have just said Pozzato sux and left it at that...

Seems at the very least this group will make HTC and Garmin work hard enough that there won't be an organized sprint making it interesting. Hopefully though they just manage to stay away, never know.
