yeah so we can be afraid of every downhil. seriously, a rider dieing happens eveyr 5 years or so and it's really horrible but that's also some of the risks. I;m sure if we stopped putting climbs and downhils in races nobody would be watching

seriously. now is not the time. shut the **** up

I was still hoping to be wrong, but I thought the worst the moment he was shown on tv.

Horrible. :(

It was awful. When I saw the first shots from the motorcycle in the distance it looked like potentially fatal accident. He wasn't moving and the doctor ran out of the medical car. This is so sad.

Horrific news, there is a memorial thread up in the forum.

I am half an inch away from closing this thread. Not sure what else can be added here about the stage itself that is worth saying, that is more appropriate there.

Please keep things respectful.

I think closing this is wise personally.

It brings to mind the 2010 Olympics where the Turkish athlete passed away...
The Olympics went on, but with a proper tone of remembrance.
The Giro must go on, but tomorrow's stage at least should be ridden neutrally.

At his time why don't YOU show some class and delete the inappropriate youtube link that YOU posted.

RIP Wouter

OK guys, you can lambast me later for doing this, but I am soooo not in the mood to patrol the rest of this thread, so I am gonna invoke that privelege that I have and stop the stage thread here and now.

I also want to separate the people who quite rightly can't stomach reading anything that matters less to them from those that are already ready for reflections that others rather leave until later.

There is a thread that pays respect to a rider that few of us haven't noticed, and probably less of us have to say anything bad about, which in cycling is quite something.

If anyone wants to start a thread on health and safety, or something, feel free to do so.

Sad day for cycling, nuff said.
