I wasn't able to watch live this morning and just watched the last hour of it while simultaneously reading this thread. Good stage, but I wish that crash hadn't have happened. Would have been fun to see how it would have played out with Sastre, the Liqui boys and everyone else there when they hit the dirt. Oh well...

Awfully big gaps for so early in a GT. I really only think there are 3 guys who can win this thing at this point.

Cadel was involved in the crash with LeakyGas too, but he and Matty Goss re-joined the group after a bit of an effort. Makes his win even better.

well you can do one of two things, take away the "doper who has served his ban" in which case remove Vino, Millar, Basso, or remove the doper in which case there is probably nobody left. You decide?

If vino could have won the stage he would have done. .Cadel had more power, so if thats the case logic dictates cadel must be doping too, which a large amount of people seem to think he isnt.

Off to the clinic with you.

edit: ive just been suckered by a troll havnt I. if anyone should know better i should. :/
Don't you start, Dim. Millar, Basso etc are actually sorry that they have doped. Vino thinks he is an innocent soul. Your "logic" about vino and evans is copmletely idiotic.

You're right -amidst all the carnage today I had forgotten that Cadel was involved in that crash too until I looked back at the highlights.

I also don't think he was going for the stage win - I think he was riding to put time in to Sastre & Liquigas....... but he was just so strong in the final 500 meters. An impressive display in a stage that will be long remembered.

Only just had the chance to watch today's stage.

Wow!

Very pleased for Cadel to get a stage win. I think he was going for it too. Otherwise he would have sat on the wheel and followed the sprint. He really put tons of effort into the last 100 meters.

Also pleased to see Liquigas lose out.

I suggest we use the "Armstrong Twitter Cunego Test" to see if Evans is clean. Armstrong never misses a chance to taunt Cunego when he is beaten by doping riders. If Armstrong does not make a snarky comment about Cunego then we can assume that Armstrong knows Evans is clean.

Why would Armstrong do that? Is there some history I am not aware of between LA and Cunego?

I thought armstrong only mentioned cunego when cunego was mentioned in some reports of the doping investigations... although maybe i am incorrect :S

"I will crush you Little Prince"... didn't he say something like that last year?

Could have all come unstuck on that hairpin, I thought he was gone for a second there, rarely seen him push a descent like that.

Nice comments by Millar, he's fast becoming a preferred rider of mine.

Surprised to see Porte so close, but I think the credit goes to Larsson and Saxo. Look at the time gaps, the first "group" which crossed together (8 riders) was 53rd at over 10minutes.

The old saying that the Giro won't be won in a day, but could be lost, may apply to Carlos Sastre, who lost a whopping five minutes.

I agree with those who say the Giro is showing up the Tour (and Vuelta) once again how to put on a GT and have interesting stages that aren't big mountains.

Amusing your admiration for Evans, Eyjafjallajokull, as you were harping on Cadel just the other day. Did you see the light?

Let's see who has what in the gas tank for tomorrow's stage up the Terminillo.

They were all going at it so I don't think it will favour anyone. Sastre is supposedly sore so will be interesting to see how he goes.

Exciting to watch, yes, but not always for the best reasons. Some of their route choices are always a bit dangerous and it's never nice to see the GC decided on crashes.

Well it is funny that every team he is with goes out the back. I wonder if that could be something to do with his style of team motivation? That was a bit fun really. I still delighted he got the stage win and nobody deserves to win a grand tour more than he does. Everyone can agree with that.

The effects of today's stage could be seen on Cadel's face.

From Cadel's diary re the stage today:

"I found myself in a roadside drain that was so deep I didn't even see the entire Liquigas was in there too. I had to bridge back almost solo to get back to Vinokourov and Garzelli."

People talking about GC's being decided by crashes, I agree but really in this case one rider showed the ability to get back while the others didn't, I'd suggest Cadel was stronger despite his crash.

What an amazing stage, am finally starting to find some place inside myself for admiration of Vino as well.

Armstrong doesn't like Cuengo because he wears the "I'm dope free" tattoo. You know Armstrong. No one can say their clean unless there him. Otherwise don't speak about drugs.
