The giro continues to Jump The Shark.....

lastyear.....pay lance to show up.
this year....riding carbon bikes/wheels on crappy 1940 era roads
next year....pay alberto and design the course with him in mind

fewer and fewer riders will be choosing the Giro for TdF prep.

It is becoming a commercial extravaganza for the bored fans, sure,
but the riders are smarter than that.

What about the great Bauke Mollema, 13th for the second stage in a row, a though mountain stage and now a completely flat stage. This guy is the new Eddy Merckx /copying EBH-fans mode

/all-aboard the patriotic bandwagon - plenty of room!

His sense of focus reminds me a bit of Menchov last year, sprinting for bonus seconds against Di Luca. Towards the end, he was slipping away a bit (in the final TT quite literally, of course) and the rest of the year, he was nowhere. Let's hope Cadel can take some of that focus into the Tour.

Evans suddenly attacking, contesting sprints, getting excitable on uphill finishes, winning Ardennes classics...

old Valverde, new Evans?

All he needs to do now is commit one idiotic mistake that loses him 3 or 4 minutes, and he'll have done a perfect impression of the Spaniard that thwarted him so often.

I like how Evans is riding. He seems to want to ride this year and do the stripes honour. Nice, and quite a transformation. Think he even made a vague attempt to clean the mud of his stripes before crossing the finish line at stage 7. Now sprinting here. Endearing, in a WTF sorta way. And man possessed, inna good way. I hope.

A shame that his team support seems to be restricted to making the team atmosphere more enjoyable, and very little else. So making the breakfast table a happier place, and singing lullabies around his hotel bed room when Cadel puts on the rainbow pj's that his grandma gave him. (please tell me that that is an internet joke gone viral).

Starting to suspect that he can blow and then still find that little bit extra to bite through it, if this is his current state of mind. Glad he got his own self out of the way anyway, as I prefer watching the man ride like this, than hiding that same capacity behind a truck load of excuses and blame. Certainly warmed to the man, pj's or not.

I rather enjoyed this post-stage tweet by Brent Bookwalter:
That was fast. & wet. & way fast, and really wet. Glad to know our BMC's are just as good going thru standing water as they r on pavement.
Apparently, they're mediocre on any surface.

"jump the shark" jumped the shark years ago. 1997 called, they want their slang back.

Oh. Didn't know that.

There's always the Sporza videozone, if you don't mind a bit o' Dutch.
http://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza/videozone

Choose the second tab "sporten" (sports)
Choose the second sport "wielrennen" (cycling)
Choose whatever you want to see on the panel on the right. Verslag = recap. Rit = stage. Laatste kilometer = final kilometre

Astana looked good today as did Liquigas. Cuddles will have to sacrifice a herd of goats so that his luck keeps landing on the happy side of circumstance because once the roads start to point up and he experiences a bit of trouble, there will be nary a BMC teammate around to give him a helping hand. Riding well so far though.

And poor Mr. Sastre. Did he crash into a delivery truck full of mirrors before the Giro started? Seems that each day so far has provided ample opportunity for something bad to happen.

Freaky. Sorry, can't help you then! Hard to know if something's georestricted if you're in the right geo zone :)

Boy, RAI is really going bonkers on the internet coverage aren't they? They should realise that all coverage is good for them.

Great finish to the stage. Evans impressed me again. Was he sending a message to Vino after what happened earlier in the stage?

Think he was just following Vino, didn't want him to get seconds on the line.
