What if he does win.

I wonder about this. Id like to think he would continue going for his home race, especially since together with Basso, hes pretty much the biggest italian star. Hes the one they are hyping up most, Giro is his home race, its where his fans are at, and he might want to conitnue doing it until he wins.

LOL at the gazzetta commentator geography lecture. He's saying that Etna is the highest volcano in Europe because Mt Teide is highest than Etna but it is geographically in Africa. Does he know in which tectonic plate is Sicily?

Ive seen the first movie before. Hell they had it last week, and will 90% have a 5 set encounter in 3 weeks. Thats not taking into account all the hard court matches they played in the last few months.

Etna on the other hand is once every 30 years. (well twice every 30 years, kind of)

Quite a few sprinters simply don't TRY to do the mountains. Cipo was famous for it. He won the maglia ciclamino at the Giro three times, but never lasted more than a week or so at the Tour or Vuelta cos he'd quit rather than try the mountains.

No because he always did the Giro full out previously. Plus he's thiner this year, but he has always, for a sprinter, gone well uphill.

It's more because in the earlier Tours Petacchi rode, he was either injured or exhausted after the Giro.

One tour he was injured (bruised ribs), and still managed to win 4 stages while not being able to breathe properly.
Petacchi is one of the best climbers among the sprinters. I think only Hushovd, Freire and Ventoso are better

Seriously doubt Contador will be a protagonist today. He'll follow and if there is an opportunity to gain real time without going too deep counterattack. Otherwise he will be content to not lose time to any of the other favorites.
