Let's hope there'll be some busts during the Giro, and not just among the wildcards like in '13. I'm missing some good old fashioned GT doping drama.

Yeah, I'd like to see Geraint Thomas get busted too.

Busting a couple no-name (for the general public) riders in a PT team does absolutely nothing against that narrative. If anything, it reinforces it.

Sadly, my thinking as well. I think it's a case of 'less funded' teams and riders getting popped to show that 'the drug testing is working.'

Wonder if that will be that, or they'll catch a few more small fish and let them dry out in the sun while the big boys entertain the crowds and bring in the $$$$.

No need for any element of conspiracy. Two guys were busted because they were doping with something a bit exotic and probably didn't understand the glow times. Amateur hour stuff.

It's just too... ****... stupid!
To dope or let the tests beat you?

To dope.
Besides, if you don't dope the tests can't beat you.
Yeah, thats not really how professional cycling works, unfortunately.

Cutthroat sport, cutthroat competitors

Okay, there has been some cases of people returning positive tests despite not having doped. But generally a generally a good way to avoid testing positive would be not to dope.

Yeah, I'd love that. Then the next day Landa will fly away and everyone will lose their *** :D

It's not about an explicit conspiracy, but structures with that purpose, I think.

Or stupid doctors or stupid team orders.

Pirazzi is 30. That is an experienced rider.

Yes, the stupidity could be on someone else's part. Pirazzi is indeed experienced, but I doubt if he's particularly experienced with this newfangled peptide stuff. Whoever they got it off, whether it's some dodgy soigneur, some website or a doctor, probably didn't understand the glow times either. That's the problem with going with something a bit exotic. Thousands of athletes and hundreds of doctors haven't had the chance to work out how best to get away with taking it. You have to start from a lower base knowledge. Maybe you've got a new secret weapon... or maybe you are walking around with some stuff in your system that's detectable for weeks.

You don't even need a conspiracy to create structures with that purpose. Structures will have that effect regardless of intent as long as big name dopers have more money and thus better expertise than smaller fry have access to.

Perhaps desperate men do desperate things? They were also going for the high risk/high reward. Maybe they used too much or maybe they were gambling on not being tested at a particular time and place?

I think the doctors probably know more than the team as far as what you should take and when, and how long a particular substance is in your system, so the team must have just said 'the hell with it' and risked it.

Just my take on it.

Why do we often find out about these things on the day preceding a GT? Who releases the information? The UCI? Or is it media just waiting to get the story as much coverage as possible? I am genuinely curious as this has happened a few times.

That too. Remember the 2006 TDF? Ullrich, Basso, Mancebo...Also the Puerto case was a few weeks before it.

All publicity is good publicity. :D

Maybe UCI just fired a shot at RCS, politics plays a lot in the way of these decisions. Maybe UCI fired a shot at Italian teams? Who knows.

Maybe Voeckler will be popped before the TdF

Isnt that weird how two guys from the same team get popped on the same day for the same drug? Did they have it together at the breakfast table or what?
