this is from a pro rider and at a much greater level of work than I have any knowledge about....

"At the finish line, our soigneurs had bottles of protein and mix to immediately initiate the recovery process."

And 'yes', I agree that similar nutrition and 'recovery aids' could be done using other foods and beverages.

What happend to good old fruit post training/race? Oh thats right, fruit makes you fat and ice coffee makes you lean and fit. ;)

You want to learn what recovery is? Eat 10g of carb per kg of bodyweight, per day from whole food sources (fruit is the best), eat 1g of carbs per kg per hour WHILST on the bike and drink enough water so you ****ing clear at least 10 times a day and that is about as close as you get to LEGAL recovery.

Give it another 7-10 years and you will see the top riders using a plant based diet as mainstream recovery. We just say 3rd place rider at Pari Roubaix whom is a long time plant based athlete and promoter of such. I was training with Ballan in January and when we stopped at the coffee shop he had a soy decafe latte. The rest of the team had the 'normal' stuff.

Keep your protein/fat intake under 10% of your total calories and you will see an even bigger improvement in recovery and therefor athletic performance.

The best book on the subject is 'Nutrition and Athletic performance by Doug Graham. Asker Jeukendrup will get there in about 6 years I reckon.

choc milk and colostrom used to work well for me; no post ride/DOMS. Contains IGF-1, a HgH stimulator. Can you still get colostrom? Is it now on banned list?
