Firsanov looks like a good rider who I havent heard of but he obviously isnt all that good if he is riding for Rusvelo so I am unsure how good a signing that would be.
He outclimbed Quintana by an incredible 2 minutes in Vuelta Madrid, so there's no doubting his talent. He also has a whole lot of other great results this year, such as 4th in Tour of Belgium, 5th in Tour of Norway and 3rd in Rund um den Finanzplats. Such consistency at a high level is rarely seen by a continental rider. In fact, he has scored more CQ points than JTL this year. Should be a good signing for Riis, it's a mysterium that he isn't a pro already.

Your logic is amazing - anyone riding on a small team "obviously isn't all that good". None of the stars in this sport ever starts out at a small team, do they?

Though I understand your point, in this particular case the Froome-logic is almost understandable: Firsanov has had a lot of years at Continental level to deliver results enough to warrant a pro contract, but still haven't gotten any. If a 30 year old rider has ridden six years Cont. without getting higher in the rider ranks, ones logic might say he's not "all that good".

I know Firsanov from his days at Designa, where he always was an opportunistic rider, but he seems to have taken a step up this year. Better late than never, one might argue :)

He has been Pro since 2005... how long does it take for a star to shine?

Ouch:D

Since a croatian was named already I would say Durasek has got my eye in a few races this season. Would like to see what comes out of there.

Anyway, I think Riis needs to decide what does he want for Saxo. Depth, support for Alberto or both. It all depends on the riders available and the amount he has gotten I guess.

Tbh the essance of what he has said (not only in that article - had to use google translate for it obviously - but also other) is that he wont demand that Riis hires Russian riders. He says he has mentioned some Russian riders Riis might know about, but that all recruting is up to Riis.

So there might very well be Russian riders, only Tinkoff hasnt demanded it.

Niemiec has been a pro longer than that and it was only last year that a wt team signed him and he literally did become the best domestique in the world immediately (since.kiri had no one to work for that).
