An Aussie one....

Use the Anzac biscuits recipe, substituting extra dark syrup instead of water, adding sultana's or chopped raisins.

Makes a solid bar that doesn't crumble, but is chewy, rather than hard.

If you want super-high energy density food, the best one is fruit-mince pies, available in the shops as Xmas approaches. Gram for gram, they are about the most energy-dense food I have found, other than Nutella filled crostatta in Italy.

I use a readymade shortcrust, in a pot i boil up some thai rice with really salty water, later add some milk, some household sugar, some maltodextrin, then 2 to 3 eggs depends on the size of the mass i got, some cinamon and then put the tray into the oven. I ushually keep some of the rice cakes in my freezer espaicially for longer tours

This is a great thread...I'm glad it's here, as I am just researching some options as I get tired of some of the bars on the market.
I laughed out loud at Allen Lim's rice cake recipe though! Thanks Krebs..will have to try these. The other things look good too.

I'll contribute shortly. :)

I tried to eat a Payday nut roll candy bar on a ride the other day and just about choked on the peanuts! :D

I ride triple centuries on 5 large medjool dates per hour. No plastic crap to thru away or ingest.

Eat 1g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per hour.
Eat 10g of carbs per kg of bodyweight per day.

Wear stuff out!

Running or riding I like peanut butter and honey, or peanut butter and nutella, just make sure you have plenty of water. Fig newtons are good too. As for the paydays, those are my favorite candybar! Ate on 3 weeks ago on an 80 mile ride.

Fig Roll Biscuits

I have always trained and raced on them, they are just the right size and full of natural fructose. They are also very cheap.

I prefer the supermarket own brand over the original Jacobs because jacobs have changed the design and they now contain less fig.

They are easily wraped in a little tin foil and stick a few in the back pocket.

Hi All,
This is how I made my energy bar, feel free to comment on it.
3 cups of rolled oats, 2 scoops of protein powder, 1 1/2 cups of dried milk, 1 tbs cinnamon, 1 cup of lite syrup, 2 large egg whites, 1 cup orange juice, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 cup raisins.

In my triathlon days, we debated over the best quick compact recovery food and it was decided that Payday bars had everything you need.

This recipe is easy. The mixture is very soft at first but in a day or two, you can cut nice bars:
