I must admit before the Tour I wasn't a fan of Contador. With everything going on away from the road and whilst I didn't begrudge him a win, it could be incredibly boring and predictable.

Three weeks have changed all that. If he has the legs, he attacks. It made the Giro boring but bought the TDF to life. If he hadn't, Evans wouldn't of gone away on the descent into Gap, Schleck would never of considered attacking on the Col d'Izoard, let alone done it, and today everyone would've waited until the Alpe to attack. Cycling will miss him immensely if he gets suspended and a photo of my appreciation.

Say what you will about Contador, but from this era he's the one that will be remembered in fifty years, mentioned alongside Coppi and Pantani et al. When he was dominating the Giro, I was rooting for Nibali, but still awestruck by his performance. And now when he's not dominating, nowhere near top form, he's still the one that makes the race.

Having Contador in a race is like 10 christmases rolled into one.

When people said Contador might go early i thought, yeah right - I dont believe in fairy tales.

But he did it. He actually did it. And even earlier than we could have thought.

After everything, the Giro, the knee, the Mont Allesouts screwjob even when 5 minutes down, he thinks "screw this - all or nothing".

What a race he is giving us.

I was amazed that he still had the guts/will to attack on the Alpe after his break. Great ride, great fight.

In recent history, tours have been won 3-4-5 times consecutively. We need to look back at Merckx, Hinault, etc. who won 2, missed one, won another, then a podium, etc.

Contador had a rough year, and he already won the Giro. Battling for the win in the TdF is a great performance. He'll be back for 4-5 more Tours de France...they're going to be great battles.

Unreal!! It's why I love this guy. He is a true Champion and will never stop fighting.
1st in the Giro, and a probably a top 5 finish in the Tour. Not to many riders in the Tour this year that could do that.

Very much agree, one of the best and most exciting athletes in the world, does some amazing things, i felt sad today when he lost the stage though, could tell he was suffering alot but giving it his all.

You can see Contador is still head and shoulders above everyone else, when with three crashes, a painful knee, and a Giro in his legs, he can still do something like this on the final mountain stage in a tough Tour.

Last year I thought Andy Schleck might have closed the gap a little bit, but no, he's nowhere close. Contador (if unsuspended and fit) will win every Tour in the coming decade. And not only based on his physical talent, he's also mentally the strongest rider in the peloton today.
