I've been just taking a look at 2003 Tour Luz Ardiden stage. They are climbing Tourmalet, of course TV shows Ullrich, Armstrong and Mayo. We can see Vino, even Hamilton. Where is Haimar? Nobody knows... and here he is coming from nowhere (min 21:20) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=almydPwM7wo

Being given the title of GC leader would draw too much attention to him. No, he needs to stay anonymous and ninja his way into countless top 10 after top 10.

Perico Delgado had 8 or 9. He also has the most GT Top 10s in history.

But the cameras were zoomed in directly on his face for quite a long time (10sec ) - clearly the producers were keeping an eye out for him. He came quite close to beating Vanendert in the sprint for 6th. Would they have cut the results to top 5 then?
