Hardest riders in the peloton today?

Adam Hanson - Rode all 3 GTs in 2012. Will do same again in 2013. One Giro stage. Makes his own shoes as normal cycling shoes don't fit.

The Shark - Descends like his life depends on it. Hard as nails.

Contador - Looks flimsy but never gives up. Crashes. Gets up keeps riding.

Who else?

Voigt (still the hardest and the best)
Phinney (for his TA ride, epic!)
Navardauskas (frequently on the front, and got a lot of power that he can dish out)
Kangert, Agnoli (for their rides for Nibali this Giro)
Cancellara (He's proved his nickname right this year more than ever)
Keisse, Rabottini (earned their hardman status's with their 2011 rides)
Wout Poels (has been great coming back from very serious injuries, getting a top 10 in PV and TA)
Sagan (no explanation needed)
Tommie V (He's one tough Frenchman)
Gaudin (was a absolute beast this classics season)

Cadel despite his squeaky voice is a bit of a tough guy. I think the winner would be Timmy Duggan after what he came back from though

Another vote for hansen, broke his collar bone in the 2010 tour stage 1 with over 100km to go, still rode on front of the peloton to chase back the break, though didn't finish in the bunch, finished 3 minutes down then withdrew over night when xrays confirmed the break

You only think that because he pulls faces.

Nah, he fights hard and digs deep. Whether it's going for the win from the break, or fighting to preserve yellow, the guy is tough. he doesn't give up easy.

Svein Tuft - he rode from Alaska to Langley (Canada) with his dog in a trailer behind. I also remember some story of him riding down the west coast of USA to get to a training camp and living Bear Grills style out in the wilderness.

And at TA last year rode solo on the front for 200k driving the peloton...Cav's tweet on it

"Ride of the day.. No, make that ride of the millennium, goes to GreenEDGE’s Svein Tuft. 200km ALONE controlling the peloton! Respect"

Adam Hansen is also famous here for before he was a pro (or even really a road cyclist) for riding from his hometown of Cairns to Brisbane (1700km through tropics and sub-tropics) one holiday for something to do. On arriving in Brisbane he turned around and rode back. He's also 2 time winner of the Crocodile Trophy - a tuff MTB stage race through tropic rain forrest and desert during the height of summer.

You can't forget his performance in 2004 battling to keep yellow. Also the Galibier finish in 2011 where he dug in to keep it as well.

Agree about Gaudin too. His ride in P-R was immense.

I haven't forgotten, don't see how losing time makes you a hard man of the sport, just his face makes you think he was riding in pain the whole time, it's an act.

Losing time doesn't make him a hardman, it's the way he fights to the end that makes him a hardman.

I think Vicioso deserves a mention here, finishing the Giro stage 3 days ago with broken ribs, scapula, wrist, fingers.

Allright I'll nominate Linus Gerdemann 2007 tour. Or is he less hard because he's pretty and was unsuccessful?

Vino. After they hauled his broken body out of that ravine in the Tour, who would have thought he could become Olympic Champ.

Kolobnev is known as very hard. Vino was really hard also.

Also Pozzato (yes, he´s hard) and Flecha.

Forgot Paolini, of course. Also Bert Grabsch. There are numerous. Voeckler is not one of the hardest, IMHO, he just has this face expression often.

Wiggins is hard, no doubt. But all Sky riders? I don´t know.

As someone here said it right, however, if someone is pretty, that does not mean that he can´t be hard. Gerdemann, Swift, Pozzato, Capecchi, all hard men.

Now I realize, we all forgot Kiryienka. Epitome of the hard cyclist.

Kiryienka definitely one of the hardest guys.
