Well, let's just wait for this huge third week. But if there was any hope for a great GT Colombian rider from me, it was Henao.

no love for quintana?

I love him alright. But IMO he is too small. He is the typical colombian climber that needs a little extra power on the flats and TT (not in a mountain). Again is my opinion and I know it differs from the one from Ryo. I am just talking about being a GT potential contender.

quite agree with you. Quintana might end up like a Rujano loosing big time everywhere excpet when it goes uphill (and the wather is warm ;)) Then again he is still what 22? so we will see

well the guy does seem to climb very well and he is on a team that is strong enough to protect him on the flat, unlike rujano.

problem is unzue likes to develop riders very slowly so you have about 4 years of waiting until he let's quitana ride a GT as leader of the team :p

I am a big fan of Igor Anton, but years of dissapointment have taught that GC rider has to be strong and conistent in all respects: wet, cold, hot, steep stuff. not si steep, flats, descents, resistant to illnesses etc. I do not know Henao very much, but so far he seems consistand and without apparent weaknesses (unlike Rujano or Anton and many others).

Sky are developing an uncanny knack of backing the wrong guy for GC in grand tours. First Wiggins over Froome at the Vuelta, now Uran over Henao at the Giro.

Will it be Wiggins over Froome (again) at the Tour or maybe even Richie Porte?

You are right. Henao looks more bulky but I guess that was just an illusion.

Having said that, I have to wait for something from Quintana that proofs that he is a GT contender. He is already a great talent. And he already started winning this year in Europe. But it is very easy to mislead talent with consistency over three weeks of racing. But I am excited about him already.

I still have my fingers crossed so that Henao don’t falter on the third week of the Giro.

why are you screwing up with my posts?:D

nonetheless I agree w/ U- SKY tend to "please their darlings first" before they realize they could have gone for the big price had they supported the rightful rider

Kept telling yall. This is the real deal. No top 10 with Pozzovivo and Kreuziger and them, this guy is a somebody. He is a contender.

Absolutely. You have shown incredible loyalty to Henao's qualities for years and for what its worth I am completely in agree with you Hitch.

Can we also please kill the myth that Sergio isn't good on steep gradients now that we're already here. Sergio is excellent on ALL types of climbs including steep ones as well. I have seen him accelerate in his characteristic explosive fashion several times when the gradient has been well over 10%.

Mortirolo should fit him like a glove for example. If something might prove to be a hurdle for him, it is the fact that right now he is in unknown territory, entering a full third week of racing for the first time in his career. Maybe he still needs a little time to mature as a rider, all-though I have to say he looks well on his way already!

Before the Giro started, I predicted he would finish on the podium in Milan. Right now its still game on, but we are yet to see Scarponi and Basso fully open up, so I will wait a few days before I (Might) go into euphoria.

Sky were coming to win stages and hopefully the points jersey, They had no real GC ambitions as a set goal. Thats why hey picked a team to suit flat stages more than mountain

Of course they understand his talents, they were scouting him since before the team was actually set up. It seems they are just trying to adapt him slowly to Protour racing as seems the norm nowadays, even though obviously it is not required for him and they arent putting him under any pressure.
It may be a mistake to make him work but they sure know all about his talent.
Brailsford said "he is one of the world's biggest climbing talents and he has a very bright future ahead of him" he said that all the staff on the team had been monitoring the rider since 2009, thats a bit extreme if you dont rate him all that talented...

he's definitely not good on long steep climbs. I also predicted last year already he would finish podium in his first giro/gt ever. pampeage will be hard for him though.

There just needs to be a balance between Ryo's claims and the actual truth, which is probably in the middle of what we posted.

To be truthful most of that post was from a procycling article on Henao with most of them being quotes from Brailsford/Arvesen so it is all seemingly correct and not just my opinion.

What about Stelvio, I cant imagine he has ever climber anything like that competitively and he is generally used to shorter climbs.
