Wasn't he beaten by Basso? I'd say it was decent, but I expected more.

Still, there's reason to be very optimistic about his future.

I expected 8th-10th at the start of the giro (originally said).

He did pretty well, I lost hope on Uran doing a good GT gc, so kudos to him also. STill I think Henao is more promising.

Top 30 in the final ITT at your first GT is nothing to sneeze at. Certainly not with Henao's build...

He will become way better than white jersey winner Uran I think

You expected more? Based on what?

Basso had a police escort...

Henao's TT has been pretty crap so far this year. Day 1 of the Giro Uran comfortably beat him. Today Henao comfortably beat Uran. Very impressive given his ability in the discipline.

Basso isn't the best but he's certainly has a decent TT. IF Henao's first 3rd week TT is just as good -if not better considering the pacesetting moto- I'd say he certainly has a bright future ahead of him.

well henao profits from his great recuperation ability. He just needs to work on his weak points now. Steep climbs (lighter gear!) and TT (position)

Much better than I had expected. Very respectable time. If Sky can work on his position then they could turn him into a fairly good GC time trialist.

Im not an expert, but I think that due to his height it will be quiet difficult to work on position.
Anyway Team Sky is supposed to be one of the best teams where they can develope TT.

9th position is superb at first GC attempt!:)

very good performance for his first gt
very impressive recover after a bad day and he would have done probably better without sky stupid tactic attitude

i think they should work more on his climbing abilities, in terms of loosing some weight and proper gearing than on his TT.
if he wants to win something he has to improve his point of strength where he can really make the difference ( also in the hilly classic) than try to make him a TT specialist. this will not work , as did not work with cunego and many others.
he is too small and he has not the sense of pacing needed for tt.

look at uran, he his in his seconfd year at sky and his ITT is always the same.
henao in TT will always have to defend what he can eventually gain in mountain and hills

I agree. His TT is not great, but it's sufficient. Much more room for improvement in the climbs, methinks.

Gadret, clearly.
Nieve, mmm, maybe. Snail on the TT bike. Yet again, is Henao that much better?
Pozzovivo? No chance at all. His TT is not bad at all.
You called it.:)

Well, it was expected anyway.

That happens when they know they have no real shot at the GC so they go for the KOM instead and in the process end up inside or close to the GC top 10. This is not the case for Uran and Henao and it definitely won't be after this Giro as they will exit it thinking of a podium spot in the next GT they enter.
+1.

I was going to say the same thing.

Situations change when you are in contention for a high GC position.

Based on the fact I have a higher concept of his potential and abilities than you, of course.
But he has a poor record in TTs - this is arguably his best TT performance. Expecting him to do better was unrealistic.

Congratulations to Uran and Henao.:)

Henao proved once more that he has great recovery and is very consistent.

I have waited 25 years (1985,1987-1988) to see two Colombians climbing with consistency in a Grand Tour and finishing high up in the GC. I am very happy. I see the golden years of "Escarabajos" coming again with Henao, Uran, Quintana, Betancur, Duarte, Atapuma and probably many more.

Betancur seems more like a classics rider to me. I've noticed he is riding very aggresive but not stupid, he's smart as well as proven in Belgium today. I know he's also a very good climber but he's not built like one...

Btw how about Jarlinson Pantano?

Great Giro for Henao. He looked pretty smooth on Stelvio and done OK in TT today. I wonder what will be his next races ? San Sebastian, Vuelta ? Or maybe Canadian races and Lombardie ? Cant wait to see him winning something this year.

On the other hand Columbians could prepare a great team for Worlds this year. But they need someone to organise things and set proper roles for everyone in the team. For now i cant see Duarte working for Henao or vice versa. And there is also Betancur.

DT: I don't know about Betancur. Seems to me he's done great in every single kind of race which involves some climbing, but I wouldn't say he's more suited to the classics and hills, but rather that he hasn't had many chances to race on the high mountains yet. There's the 2011 Giro, of course, but he was very young then (and he still showed some glimpses of his talent). Trentino is a more recent reference.

Well it's good to see Betancur is very allround in the climbing-sense as well. Most colombians seem to somehow falter on hills in Europe. (good, but not exceptional)

Yeah, far better to race like headless chickens. Maybe they'll find a special fan to get all excited about them whilst they spend their career on 2nd rate teams never fulfilling their potential and withdrawing from races with a sore throat.

Who's talking about Rujano here? Would you say every rider who attacks is a headless chicken? Gilbert. Contador. Boonen. Cancellara. Not one chicken head between the four of them.

Last time Uran did the Giro he did quite well in Tour de Suisse afterwards, so I would guess he will go there before taking a break. It would be good to see Henao do the same, but I suspect he will either have a break or do Route de Sud (assuming Sky are going this year).
