Gotta say that Ewan's sprint train has functioned poorly during the Australian summer - They've dropped him off too early, run out of riders in the last km, hd an occasion when the train couldn't keep up the leaders - Ewan is in decent form and has shown an ability to surf wheels which will undoubtedly help him - Things should change when he he re-unites with Mezgec.

Have no doubt the Cadel race will be won by a climber type - The extra time up Chamberry will make a big difference - Remember last time the winner Arndt ( who is decent on short climbs ) was dropped on the last climb and only good riding by his team-mates got him back into the peleton - Reckon Gerrans will find the course too hard - It's a wide open race.

It's Challambra :)

Ewan can surf wheels in races of this level where there aren't the full trains and full on argy bargy. However, in order to be able to surf wheels in the big league when there is far greater physical risk involved, he will need to grow or acquire significantly larger gonads than he has ever demonstrated to this point.

The irony is the only time MS got the lead out right, Ewan managed to stuff it up - Anyway. Mezgec will get Ewan into prime position at least two or three times in the TDF and then its up to him.

Looking at the start list - very hard to pick a winner. Maybe too hard for Viviani and Arndt. Also can't see Bennett getting there. Bora look good with McCarthy and Kennaugh. Devenyns is my pick. Maybe Haas and Slagter. And hoping for Chavito.....

No Impey? He even said this race was his main aim for the Australian summer.

I kind of think: if he's there in the sprint, so too will a few other (faster) sprinters. I guess he is in good form, and should have confidence from his ride in TDU, especially that stage that Sagan won.

There's no way Gerrans will even be in the finale. Hard to see a winner from BMC - Porte will be in the mix, but lacks the racing nous and power to win. I hope you're right about a climber taking it. I think it's more of a strong man/puncheur type course.

Because it’s too hilly or Gerrans is that out of shape?

The latter. He would have been an almost unbackable favourite a few years ago, but in 2017 his day was done before the finale on just about every occasion. Likewise in the TDU & the Aust nats - although he was playing super domestique for Porte through both events. I'm pretty sure that will be his role in this one too.

He was second in this race last year:)

Norman looks very strong today.

Does he always push a big gear on climbs or is that a result of the weird bike he’s on?

(There, fixed it for you. ;) )

I've honestly never noticed how he rides on the climbs. He's - primarily a TT specialist.
On the road, that is. He's also pretty decent on the track.
Isn't he always called Norman Hansen (by the Danish commentators)?

Lot of media seem to just call him 'Norman', and given that Holm seemingly didn't even know his name is 'Hansen' as well; thinking he was some Norwegian when he had his rather good debut for Garmin back at the Tour of Dubai some years ago.
Also, there are enough Hansens already, no need to add another to the mix. And '-sen' names are boring anyway.
