This race honestly shouldn't even be WT. It gives out too many points to Australians.

I could agree with the first sentence, but for many different reasons. How is this a valid reason?

For example the WC participation is awarded based on WT points and clearly here, the Australians have a clear advantage over other nations by holding an WT event that far away, during winter in Europe and North America and in weather conditions that discriminate majority of nations.

Based on the UCI World Ranking now.

Same thing ...

The UCI ranking is awarding 500 points to the TdU winner which is the same as Paris-Nice winner or the Paris-Roubaix winner and half the point the winner of the Tour de France will receive.

Pure BS considering how weak the field is and how lame the stages are.

Like I said above, the other World Tour teams know when the TDU is on and how many points are on offer. A growing number of riders have also proven that it's possible to do well there and have very good form later in the year as well.

The other World Tour teams and nations only have themselves to blame.

This race is so damned boring. If this was the first bike race I'd ever watched I'd never watch again. Literally, nothing happens. No attacks, no hills, no nothing.

maybe the UCI or organisers would do something if they realised how unpopular this race is outside of the venue its staged at - its little wonder the TV coverage is so poor, there's simply no demand for it.

even in Australia nobody cares about it or knows its on but for the people who live in the town that its raced around

the points system is a joke that this is awarded the same points as monuments and other big european races - what has the UCI been smoking to come up with this?

I can see why the forum has boycott the race in protest.

So, Jack Bauer didn't attack yesterday?

I dunno, I think the coverage around here has been pretty good. If they actually get a couple of guys to stay up in the middle of the night to comment live, then they must feel there's pretty good demand for it.

I haven't watched the stages live, but a mistake this year from the organisation seems to be the very predictable racing - there are basically 4 flat stages and 2 HTFs. I'd like to see them create at least one intermediate stage pr. edition with chances of something happening from, say, 10-15 km out or just to shell some of the peloton before a sprint. This year seems very boring in that aspect and tbh, badly created.
Boring? You sound like a 10 year old who has been told to sit down and shut up for 10 minutes without a device to see him through.

The worts part about this race is the selection of the same roads as they are pretty much riding in loops the whole week. Day after day, year after year, the same boring roads and all you hear from P&P is raving about the Willunga Hill like that is some Alpe d'Huez. There is nothing interesting to see even from the helicopter views. You cant pay me to watch more than the last 20km of this crap.

Then don't. It's really that simple.
Just accept that we are some who actually like watching this, and accept that the riders quite possibly like riding it as well, which really is the most important thing.

I'm not watching TdU today as I have been watching the Trump inauguration all day because that brings a lot of joy and hope. Lot more exciting, trust me ...

Stop spoiling Jancouver's fun. You should know that b!tching about the TDU is the highlight of the season for him. You've posted here long enough.

With all of the whining on this thread why bother watching at all if it's that bad ? The same things are said year after year. Everyone knows what sort of race it is, Go watch replays if you think the whole thing is pointless. Australians enjoy it for what it is. It's too hot, too many UCI points, not enough climbs. Tune in for the Cadel Evans race for more of the same : it's not hard enough, it's too short. The answer is simple : click fade to black.

Guess I've managed to ignore his negativity the other years. Of course it was only since last year I became lucky enough that Danish television started showing it live.

I'm not negative, I'm just honest and I call things as they are. I refuse to be politically correct ;)

I know right? Even the Tour of Beijing didn't get panned like this race does. I guess that it's because the TDU is financially healthy with very good crowds.

Not sure being essentially a government event is 'financially healthy' although I guess it is universally supported in SA so that will never change.

The balance sheet of the title sponsor though!

So do I; TDU is a great race! :D
It's a nice early chance to see the riders in action, sure the - majority of - the big-name riders aren't there, but isn't that just a good thing? Kinda nice to see the "lesser" riders getting a chance to shine.
Of course the most important thing is that the riders seemingly enjoy it, at least that's what Brian Nygaard has been saying, and I'd say he has a pretty good base of knowledge about what he's talking about.

Its not on my TV and the stream quality is so poor that I cant really see much. You again, just to compare it with my local tour of California. We have the HD stream for years and years and watching TdU is like watching a race coverage from some 3rd world country and they have been WT race forever ... WT without the WT quality of field, roads, or TV coverage. Its a shame.

It's not TDU's fault that you haven't got proper coverage. The coverage around here is pretty good; live on national television, good images, the lot. :)

Yeah, for some reason, the American TV companies are refusing to cover crappy cycling events
