Hot racing coming up in Australia

Groves does a few things wrong in sprint finishes and is far from the finished article - Anyway it's pleasing to see he is climbing better which augurs well for the classics - The question is whether TBE will take him to the UAE Tour or leave him for opening weekend.

Just catching up with this, but a 20yr old TT specialist bridged to Porte and gifted him the win on Willunga? you wot?
Worth watching the footage. Not as impressive as it appears on paper. Still, always good to see a young guy catching a break

Edmondson couldn't quite hold the front long enough and Groves is rolled by Sam Welsford by a handy margin in a looooong sprint. Nice kick, this kid needs a good team, he's seriously fast.

Curious to see what Welsford (among others) do post-Tokyo.

Interesting. Anything known about his future? Impossible to tell at this age probably, but any idea if he's "merely" a TT beast, or more? Surely half the World Tour will be looking to sign him after this.
I think he said after the Santos Festival that he is starting to realize that there might be more then just an ITT specialist in him, e.g. GCs. He is looking for a WT contract for after Tokyo and has several teams interested in him. He'd like to be on a team with fellow ozzys. His current team InForm has just recently announced a partnership with Trinity Racing, Andrew McQuaids and his agencys devo team. With them having good ties to Ineos (and other teams ofc) I could definitely see that move happening, especially as Richie has seen and raced with Plapp closely.

Wants to turn pro immediately after the Olympics - Bike Exchange's best chance to obtain Plapp is if the Olympics are cancelled ( he will turn pro ) because Ineos' roster is full - The links with McQuaid are interesting because his David McQuaid is general manager of Bike Exchange. Time will tell.

Darach McQuaid is Bike Exchange manager.
Ineos has 31 riders, 32 is the maximum

Plapp was seen as purely TT and Track back in 2018 when he came second to Remco at Junior Worlds but since then he looks to have leaned up a fair bit and as we saw a recently he's fairly punchy on climbs like Willunga.

Ineos and Greenedge have had an eye on him for a while, I thought Ineos had the slight edge but we will have to wait. Plapp is a huge talent, nearly a full year younger than Evenepoel.

Thanks, that just makes it even more strange he is not on the startlist.

I suppose it must be some kind of mistake that he is not there.

Indeed, very wired. I just saw it was announced that Plapp and Kelland O´Brian will start Melbourne to Warrnambool after RoadNats as well.

Then again, how the hell can you forget an in-form Plapp on your start-list. :p Let's hope we know more in a few hours!
