Could anyone, perhaps an Australian, enlighten me why Matthew Fox is riding Tour Down Under but not the national championships?

He's my unique pick in CQ Manager and I already feel scammed.

Probably cause he doesn't want to fly over for a race he doesn't have a chance in?

Or that he doesn't have the Lotto - Intermarché jersey yet

Robert Power is on the start list. Apparently, he also rode and DNF'ed last year (his only race on PCS), so it's probably not a grand comeback to cycling.

And my Norwegian Max doesn't have TDU listed. First cycling race on the schedule is womens' Mallorca challenge on 24th of January. So I might have to actually watch the TDU live if I want to watch it.
Danish Max didn't have it listed before today, either, I don't think, so maintain the hope.
there's a TV guide up on the TDU website, listing "VG" as the broadcaster for Norway. So I guess ES/MAX/Disco doesn't have the rights there.

edit: and unlike TV2 in Denmark last (?) year, VG actually shows the race live indeed

Thanks for the insights! It's a massive country.
Yes, I think Samamba hit the nail on the head on Matthew Fox and his decision not to ride the National champs in Perth.

Australia is roughly the same geographical size as continental USA or more than twice the size of continental Europe (excluding European Russia). The Australian NCs are in Perth which is a 3hr 15 min flight away from Adelaide (TDU).

That basically kills one day of training plus additional jet lag penalty due to time zone (Perth is 2:30 hours behind of Adelaide atm).

Oh wtf, that's a surprise. VG (biggest newspaper in Norway) has never cared one bit about cycling before, they've barely even had news articles about the Tour. Maybe one for who won it and then something if some Norwegian did well or if some clip went viral.

But they have been pouring resources into live sport lately with some football rights etc. Broadcasting the TDU was not something I saw coming though. I really don't want to get a subscription to their stuff, so I guess Tiz it is.

Peloton on a Sunday ride. Vine, Gilmore seems out of it already. O'Connor and Durbridge in the breakaway for Jayco. Welsford and Harper there too.

Vine always disappoints in one-day races. I remember he was considered a favorite for the podium in Rwanda.
He wasnt a favorite for the podium in the RR and wasnt why he was in Rwanda.

In the TT he definitely was and succeeded. That was why he was mainly there and for the TTT.

Like I dont think he has even targeted any one-day races like that, but he has done well winning stages in GTs and finished 9th in the last Lombardia in a supporting role.

To be fair to Vine, this one is difficult without a single teammate. Didn't watch when the breakaway went, but I can imagine that Jayco weren't too keen on drilling it with Vine in their wheels. And it's not easy to cover absolutely everything.

You're right, but in every one-day race he falls short of expectations, whatever the reason. The Rwandan road race is a recent example; it even seems like he was riding as a domestique because he doesn't feel capable on those days.

Congratulations to Coupland. Since she has been promoted to the first team the jersey should be at least a little more noticeable in races than it was last season.
