Bad news for all posters who want cycling to turn a blind eye to everything else going on in the world: the season starts with ramped-up scrutiny of the TDU's title sponsor. I know there have been protests before, but both coverage in a major international newspaper and explicit criticism by active riders (including one who will be at the race) are a step beyond what we've seen so far.
having a petrochemical company as the primary sponsor now seems like a small-potatoes issue with the world blowing up in so many places. Not trying to inject politics - just trying for some perspective.

note that two of the three riders quoted are not in the WT. These three Aussie riders are out of touch with reality if they think it's easy to get cycling sponsors in Australia. You only have to look at Jayco 14 years of existence, In that time they got one Aussie sponsor Orica for five years.

so far there's no men's criterium scheduled on the TDU website, though. I would think it's unlikely to still take place?

Yeah i was about to post the same, I don't think there is one, not sure where Berniece is getting that date from. I can't find anything on actual official websites about it.

From a very random site

But this is wrong, because cyclingnews says there is no race this year.

Nationals aren't supposed to ridden as teams - it's everyone for themselves......So Plapp didn't actually do anything wrong.........
That’s my view as well but not how it plays out usually.

This is why Alaphillipe has struggled to win French nationals against 27 FDJ and 18 Decathlon riders even though most years he was the strongest individual rider.

spoke to the Dad of Sophie Edward's who is riding in the Aussie team as he was writing her name on the road near the finish. We discussed how Jayco does itself no favors by refusing to bring their overseas riders to the TDU. You can get caught out by injuries and riders who are not good enough to fulfill their ride. Watch for Mavi Garcia in stage three.

With Shell and BP sponsorship for national team, Total Energies sponsors 2 team on WT
, Chevron sponsors one of the oldest races in US, Manhattan Beach Grand Prix, UAE, Bahrain, Astana all have fossil fuel angle to sponsorship.
Everything, I mean everything in cycling from head to toe, including sunglasses have petrochemical elements, bicycles themselves are built using a petrochemical intensive processes, team buses, ambulance, helicopters, support cars and motorcycles in every race big and small..
Maybe some of the commenting riders can't see forest through the trees.
Be careful going after petro people or we will be back to wearing Decca wool jerseys and shorts with a chamois from a sheep farm..
After seeing modern fabrics and anti bacterial short padding I might just hug and kiss a guy at a random gas station, just because! Or call some oil company exec and explain clammy chamois and intensely painful boils that were common before dinosaurs were used to make bike clothing!! Thank you oil companies!!!!!
I love you!
Dear TDU sponsors, thank you, thanks for your support, thanks for stepping up when dozens or hundreds didn't put money were their mouth is,
