40w improvement in 2-3 weeks? pretty impressive!

But not necessarily unexpected, especially given his normal training load (i.e., the apparent improvement is likely the result of some tapering plus the fact that it isn't very often that pro cyclists really do go "10/10ths" for such a short period of time).

Jani is going to cause problems for Astana if this is so and if he can somehow, LOL, preserve his form till the Pyrenees (not done that before in a GT, I think). I can see him dragging Lance back up to Bertie, or as close to it IF possible, a la Dauphine.

Astana will know Bertie's numbers/watts/hold times on climbs and will be keyed in to the watts profile to close the gaps, IF possible.

Bertie of course is also going to be much stronger than at Dauphine, if they are acting similarly.

that is totally ridiculous. same place as gesink?? I'm an avid gesink hater but even I have to admit gesink is miles and leaps better than brajkovic. brajkovic will never do top ten in this tour at all, not even top 20 and in a leaders role he would also fail in the final week for sure.

Gesink struggles to stay on his bike for three weeks.

I hope this discussion is over for once and all after this vuelta. brajkovic is massively overrated and doesn;t recuperate past 1 week.

Recycling a thread one year ago to prove your point with a current event?:p

How good is your memory? I would never be able to recall I forum discussion from 1 year ago even if I had just been completely vindicated.

despite my drug abuse and few concussions and other trauma to my head my memory is incredibly good.

Bruyneel says his problem is that his peaks are very short, which is a slightly different problem, and also less severe, because with perfect timing he could still do very well in the GC of a race like the Vuelta. But I'm inclined to think his peaks are short *and* his recovery is subpar, which definitely doesn't make him GT material. He might sneak into the top 10 a couple of times during his career, I suppose.

I agree with hrotha on this one. I've been a bit of a fool to believe in him this season. Of course, it could've been different without the tour crash - but again, he probably would've finished around 13-15th.

Before the Vuelta I said he wouldn't top 10 and people disagreed with me. Brajkovic never showed three week consistency, whatever the reason was. Perfect for 1 or 2 weeks but Grand Tours just don't suit him.

Yeah, so???? As far as them calling a spade a spade, thet're a lying lot themselves. Janez WOULD NOT have led the team if they had sent Levi too, as they stated that he would have been on the roster too, in subsequent responses. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/bruy...er-vuelta-snub
They don't have any room for anyone else but the Americans. And we know how thrilling Levi found Italy last year, I'd bet he was all for not going back there this year. And wold he have gone to Spain? Maybe. But that brings us back to the subject of the thread which is I doubt JB feels Janez is worthy of a team's leadership role, I feel it's worth a shot.
No, Janez is not LA or AC, but neither is Samuel Sanchez, or Ricco, sans the Cera. And those men lead, or might lead teams in the GT's. And as good as Gesink is, he still hasn't proven he can stay upright for 3 weeks. So give Brajkovic some slack guys, please?

His slack will come when he exhibits the ability to compete for the complete weeks of a grand tour. At this point he's just a talented week long stage racer
who has faltered in the grand tours. Gesink and Brajkovic aren't in the same league when it comes to grand tours. So Brajkovic is a bit overrated when it comes to his being mentioned in the same breath as those that have actually delivered. Now with the union of Shack & Leopard his prospects/opportunities
are even fewer, falling behind Fuglsang and Monfort (did he sign w/another team for 2012?).

Ah well he is a talented rider in his own right ( winer of the Dauphinie ). Next year he gets to work for the Shlecks, his chance at leadership status for GT's is probably over. Though the crash did affect his chances for the TDF and he obviously would not have had great form coming into the Vuelta.

Yes Gesink is better.

Brajkovic should definitely focus on one week races instead of GT's. He's never gonna win nor podium one. He could, on the other hand, do very well in one week races like Paris-Nice, Dauphine and Romandie like he has shown more than once.

Actually funny you should say that I put my own terrible memory down to head trauma/serious co concussion.

I guess it depends how severe it was and how much damage you head takes. I've been blessed with a skull that can take quite some damage I believe :p
