no Honestly I don't most topics I never even look into and I quickly posted this as in omloop topic it really annoyed me after a while. my apologies if it was overdone but I've been noticing lots of these posts lately.

It could be worse. There are articles on Podium Cafe that should have interesting comments but instead 80% of the comments are about VDS. That can really suck.

To a point. I bet that if you had a prolific poster here who mentioned his fantasy league at work a lot in race threads, and who did that for every race, it wouldn't be welcomed by some who don't mind it now, because this time they are part of it. If there was a bunch of his work colleagues too, and they did it as well, it would quickly become a bit much for most.

Fantasy games create additional indirect race excitement for a shadow race that only a few are part of. The riders aren't even part of it! They might lend someone a helping hand in the race because they are Columbian too, but Langeveld won't ride a bit faster because he ain't on Hitch's team, but everyone else's.

The real race is what everyone is part of. The CQ one is a shadow race with a different story-line at play. One that can be diametrically opposed to what everyone is witnessing in the actual race. To be confronted with it during a race can be alienating to people who are "in the moment", and part of, or there for, the main attraction only.

Since just about every race has CQ consequences, and the popularity of it amongst some of our more prolific posters, we will be monitoring the impact of it, on race threads.

Think before you post. And no, "mentioning the CQ game consequences (for you or others)" is not the same as "mentioning that someone is Columbian". One comments speaks to all posters and readers. The other only speaks to a part of the thread audience. Don't lose sight of that.

I don't think I've made a comment yet in a race thread about CQ... certainly if I have it wasn't until the race was over. I have no problem with keeping that sort of chatting to a minimum.

But I will say that for me, the nationality of a rider is about as meaningful as them being on someone's fantasy team in some other game I'm not playing. To be perfectly honest the whole "my country won" dynamic confuses me a bit in a sport that other than the Olympics, the WC's and a couple of other exceptions is organized by team, not by country.

I understood it in the l'avenir or WC thread for example. But for the most part I find it pretty much unrelated to a race... other then as a reason to be a fan of a rider that doesn't apply to me.

Just like being on someone's fantasy team.

it's true that it's quite annoying to find everywhere "oh i got him in my cq team hooray!" or "shiit too bad i don't have him in my cq team" and so on.i'm in this game too but let's just keep it in that thread.

anyway, this game would have been a lot more funnier if there were some money involved(ex:every player to put 10 dollars, the winner takes all)...i guess that would make the forum explode after every race:D

I'm trying to imagine how that would work in a forum with a global membership. Not only the logistics... but exchange rates.

I find it interresting that the first 11 people you picked are listed alphabetically, and the one thing they have in common is that they were all picked by me ;)

well taking into account that you copied 80% of my team i don't why that should bother you :p

anyway i am in the game but i don't think i have ever made a comment on any race thread about it. i just don't bother much

I think people have decided this annoys them so if they see a single post referencing the CQ game they overreact. It's like with the talk about streams in the Het Nieuwsblad thread - people were looking for working streams when there were still +70 km to go and virtually nothing was happening, and some folks still thought it was a huge problem.

mmm I haven't read the thread, but that's the whole idea of the race threads, for people post their reactions/questions/whatever as the race develops. It can be about the race, riders, teams, coverage, commentary. The content during races shouldn't be judged alongside a serious post-mortem discussion afterwards. The entire fun of race threads is the forum regulars just posting whatever as the race develops (people having avatar bets just makes this all the more interesting..!).

To put it into perspective. During the actual race there was 5 posts that could be directly linked to the CQ game and 1-2 of those were not obvious if you didn't know that The Hitch was obsessed with the game.

Then after the race ended there were around 7 more posts with referenses to the game.

This was in relation to over 600 posts in total in the thread after the race started.

Why single me out. I made 1 post joking that i would judge a rider based on who has him on their cq game and another telling WS how many people had Degkenkolb when he made an obvious refference to the game.

As for me cheering Flecha, that was only very slightly influenced by the cq team, and you cant attribute people cheering for certain riders to cq every time.

There were others who posted how many points they got, or which of their cq riders got what place, and if you ask me, thats ok because it only happens so very rarely.

Im not obsessed with the game, but my post count is higher that other people for every topic. That includes cq so when you see many posts from me on the topic it might seem im more excited than others but ratio wise, its the same as my posts on other topics and can be incorporated into a love not of cq but of the sport of road cycling itself.

Is it that i said Thor wasnt on form :p

I wasn't singeling you out. I only said that I found 5 instances that were CQ related and that one or two of those were only noticeable with the knowledge that you are interested in the game. Without that knowledge it would have been even fewer noticeable mentions because people would not have known that it was CQ related.
