Ullrich grew up in Eastern Germany.
Sorry, but his early results mean very little as he was very possibly doped already as a junior.

yup but he was a good GC rider young...doped or undoped...

armstrong was not a good GC rider young (doped or undoped) he was a punchy classics guy.....neither was wiggins (pursuit) or Froome (just sh*t) or Horner (not that good)...they do not pass the straight face test

now we have G Thomas who seemlessly combines the ability of the northern one day specialist and now super climber...again...straight face test...fail

Ullrich, roche, lemond, delgado and even Indurain, who was on a steady trajectory, do pass the straight face test...doped or otherwise...although Indurian should never have been able to climb 'that' fast.......

Salient point about Indurain. In the end, we're not in the sphere of reasoning here, but the old straight face test somehow just works!

One always had the sense in those Indurain tours, that Bugno or Chiapucci or some other climber were going to properly crack him, and it was always frustrating that they never could. But, illusory as it was, it was not so unbelievable that the entire narrative collapses into comedy.

I know that it is speculative, but how many Tour de France's DO YOU THINK that Armstrong would have won, if everybody (including Armstrong) rode clean ? Just give me a number.

I ask this, because the tennis crowd (MensTennisForums) are asking.

A BIG FAT NADA! Zilch..>.ZERO

correct...and comedy is all you can think when those pedals spin ever faster and that head wobbles even more and those elbows stick even further out from their spindly associated limbs... :)

Indurain had the physique that was tailor-made for a much more effective response to EPO, testosterone and HgH than his peers Bugno and Chiappucci.

Same with Armstrong. Armstrong was proof that doping can change an athlete into one he never would be without them. It totally changed the playing field that was never level to begin with.
