In my opinion it can't really be classed as mythical if it is used more than once every 3 years, you can't have a myth about something you see all the time.

When the route was presented, Christian Prudhomme stated that Stage 19 would be going through the tunnel.

I did not hear nor see that - thanks for the clarification(correction).

Anyone who has been atop Col du Galibier knows that there is absolutely no room. I'm guessing that the staging area has to be the parking area (and relatively flat areas near by) just outside the north tunnel entrance. As such, it makes some sense not to use that very narrow last 1.3km up, 1.2km down, the very next day.

As a side note, I really like the idea of the GTs re-using the beasts (or as some have called them, the 'mythical' climbs) on consecutive days. It is great for the spectators. If I had the disposable income, I'd be camping about 4km from the north approach of Galibier on the 19th of July. An easy ride puts me in Briancon for stage 17, and easy hike puts me at the finish of stage 18, and I stay put for stage 19. In fact, some route overlap on a regular basis, and irrespective of the profile might encourage more attendence everywhere.
