As Much as I hate to say it, Lance may end up in the top five. Maybe he will then retire and go away. I do not believe that he is good for cycling. He may be good for ratings, but not for cycling. For the people who can't see why that is, it's not worth explaining.

In my opinion, Basso may be the spoiler this year. Long before his ban, I thought that he would one day win the Tour. I also thought that maybe Mayo would one day win the Tour. Those pesky bans.

On a side note, I find it comical that Landis is being called a snitch by Lance fans. They must subconsciously believe what Floyd is saying or they would be calling him a liar, not a snitch. I love the Rat posters that were at the TOC. To be a Rat, you must be ratting somebody out......as in squealing....telling the truth.....

Did you watch ANY single stage of the Giro this year, let alone all 3 weeks?
There is no way Basso can beat Lance (OK he might) let alone Alberto Contador, or the slew of other riders who have focused their entire season on the TdF when he is coming off of and especially epic and difficult Giro.

Could he win, say, next year? For sure. Just not after his collosal effort in the Giro.

I was going to say that Basso may need another year, but my initial thought was that he would do something this year.

I would like Contador to win, and I believe he is the best. I said that Basso MAY be the spoiler. I hope not. I think that Basso can definitely beat Lance.

I did watch the Giro this year. All of it.

meh the craptacular course works in his favour, but i still doubt he will be competiting the win.

AC, AS and menchov on the podium (in any order).

i agree with you.but if he can't make the podium,he certainly should be able to be in the top 5.

one of my wishes for this year's le tour is a battle for the podium or a top 5 between lance and vino.it would be so much fun!!!

that would suck. Any faith I had in a clean vino would be gone if he managed to compete at the tour (seriously, he was at his limits at the giro, no way (especially at his age) could he recover enough to be competitve at the tour. He hasn't even been back a whole year yet.

The Lance Armstrong thread is too much about everything except bicycle racing.
.

Ding Ding Ding... and we have a winner. Too bad the people who constantly post to that thread haven't received their clue in the mail, email, parcel post Fedex, etc. What are the odds that this thread will go the same way? My guess is >99%. Sometimes I think that cyclingnews should just go ahead and merge this forum with TMZ.com or E!online - they have many threads that have nothing to do with cycling, so it would be a good match.

Lance likes logic like this.
Basso can carry two GTs and his goal for the season has always been to peak for the Tour.
We have seen evidence that Basso is climbing the high mountains better this year than Last.
I can't comment upon Lance. He was out the back very early on the only proper mountain he has tried to climb, so far this season.
