Just an idea:
Could there be a competition combining individual cyclists' GC results from the three grand tours? Obviously there are reasons this would never happen, but it may cause a rethink by teams and individual riders.:D

I think you would have to attach a very significant cash prize to this for riders to give a ****.

You have to get them to turn up for all 3 tours, and at present very few do. As already stated the incentives are gonna have to be biiiig

There would be some prestige attached to winning such a title.:D

It would be on pair with winning the world tour. How many riders set that as their target in January? :rolleyes:

Fans don't care. And riders don't add extra races to their schedule to get more points if they need them. They don't have any reward in terms of a big money price or media exposure they can use to ask their sponsors for a salary rise.

And we would have even more boring GT racing. As if the stupid defensive riding to protect a petty top10 placing wasn't enough, riders will start protecting top 30 :eek:

I guess it would only suit riders like Merckx, and they have totally disappeared from the scene.:D
