Any evidence of frustration by Mara? Seems too polite to go off on anybody. Nothing by her on twitter.

It's a shame if this is an accepted racing tactic. Good luck gaining viewership for women's cycling.

No, none at all, which seemed really weird. Mind you, if the commissaire can drive right behind them, watching them do that, then if you said something you are annoying both the riders involved and the comm. So why bother saying anything.

I'd like to give the comm a piece of my mind more so than the riders, to be honest.

What a joke.

If that is what it takes to get three Rabbo's on the podium -- they don't deserve to be there.

That behavior hurts women's cycling.

Voss is no boss, just another thug.

That's awful. Very dirty tactics, negative racing. Unsportsmanlike at best, dangerous at worst.

Apparently you don't follow elite Women's racing because that's pretty tame. Kicking and punching are well known tactics. They aren't used to cameras.

UCI rules mean very little. There's a rule for everything and few of them are enforced.

And however Vos has done it, she's a multi-discipline world champion winning all year long. Based on that, my guess is she's got the biggest tiny budget, and likely an aggressive personality on the bike. That makes it pretty easy to hire good riders to assist her.

If it were men doing something similar, would it be as shocking? Because it does happen. Maybe not on TV on the WT, but it does happen.

Real easy to deal with this kind of crap. Just grab the saddle of the person, rocket right by them. Stiff arm etc..

Actually, by the :43:00 mark, she was ahead of the other riders wheels..nothing a sharp left turn on their wheels wouldn't hurt, and they would go down...haha

Guess woman are more tame and not into punching someone in the face, which is likely what would happen in men's racing real fast...hence, why you don't see this stuff going on in Men's RR. Track...well, that is track racing, and those tactics and the officiating are real strict...relegation happens all the time for any shady stuff, dropping below the line etc...

No I definitely don't and never will. I got way more than my fill of women's racing years ago when I raced a lot and had a Cat 2 girlfriend - we'd go to a ton of races together and I'd watch her races which were generally after mine. I fortunately did not see the really dirty aggressive stuff you describe but I saw tons of lame wheelsucking, aggressive blocking and weak crappy racing in general. Not to mention plenty of cliqueish mean girls with eating disorders, but I digress!

New to cycling myself, do not like the looks of this at all.

They're looking like of bunch of hungry Cougars who are after the youngest Male cub...

Don't like this type of strategy at all, no matter how "legal" it may be.

What bubble is supposed to have burst when you saw her taking some pictures with nibali and contador? You are not seriously suggesting that you have moved from believing she is clean to not believing she is clean based on 2 pics..right?

-

they should refrain from that **** if they want to build up women's cycling.

Wow, hadn't looked in The Clinic in forever and I wanted to see if people were still doping, and I ran across this gem. Unreal.

First, there's no ambiguity or discussion. This is cheating, end of story. Why the commissaire didn't enforce the actual rules, I have no idea. Abbott should have just gotten off her bike in protest or pushed someone straight into the ground. The latter would have been more dramatic, the former a better idea in practice.

If women want people to take women's cycling seriously, they should probably stop racing like Cat4 men or juniors. It's embarrassing.

To the comments that "this happens in men's racing", all I can say is they must be in different races than I am. I've seen a ton of stupid stuff, but nothing even remotely close to this here. I would say that you'd be getting a pavement sandwich if you tried it, but the truth is that guys wouldn't even know what to do because it's such a foreign concept! By the time guys get to an elite amateur level they realize they'll get punched in the face for stunts like that. Again, it's just embarrassing.

As far as Vos and doping, I always just assumed she was insanely talented. Watching this does make me wonder if that's an accurate assessment, or she's just a Gev Jenson who's been doping for so long that you just assume she was always that good? She's clearly a cheater, as is the rest of her team, so it now seems like a legit question to me. Kinda like when I saw Chuck Coyle taking a free lap....in a road race... I wasn't at all surprised when he got busted for EPO, and I wasn't too inclined to believe the "dog stole my laptop" defense...

I'd call it racing. As long as it's not (clearly) endangering others, blocking is totally fine.

One of the worst posts I have read in some time. Maybe they can crash Abbott then attack her while she's down.

It's racing.

Sorry but the complete opposite is true. The rise in MMA popularity pretty much proves it. I mean the general neanderthal population. Anyone who's ever raced and been chopped on a corner will cringe and cry foul, most likely.
