Idea: Add commenting on stories

What about this for an idea: a large amount of the forum threads here are connected to stories within the site. Why not connect the forum with the stories.

Two ways of doing this are -

Allow commenting on the stories directly (a lot of big name publishers do this). example - http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2009/06/the_e-mails_that_forced_mark_s.html

Or have a link from the story to a comments section example -
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/26/us/politics/26scotus.html?_r=1&hp
and
http://community.nytimes.com/comments/www.nytimes.com/2009/06/26/us/politics/26scotus.html

Maybe you could just have a link to a thread in the forum with the same title, then you wouldn't need to actually have an structural changes to the site.

That is actually a really good idea! Especially since "Readers Letters" was discontinued in March (one of my favorite features).

I think I would prefer an open comment section at the bottom of each article/feature.

Have a great weekend. VeloGirl.
