If I get back into cycling, does it mean I have to shave my legs?

So here's a question:

You are an ex rider (not necessarily ex pro or anything, but you raced a few opens and were say B grade or higher).
You are now 5 or 10 years older and weigh about 20kg more than you used to.
You are getting back into riding and thinking of racing again but your fitness is pretty bad and you would be C grade at best.

How much weight do you need to lose to consider shaving your legs again without feeling like a tool? (And do you need to get your tan lines back again first?)

none, shave 'em. start writing the checks so you'll have to cash 'em. when i see "the fat guy with the chain-ring tattoo" i don't assume he's a tool. i assume he's embracing something and might just be in the beginning stages of a serious commitment and something awesome.

sincerely,

LMG the life coach, don't forget to tip your waitress!

I want to bleach the tips of my hair to make it look like I have compiled many more hours on the bike than the other guys. Is this a good idea?

If you're going to do that you better get an instant tan as well, just remember to leave your gloves, helmet and glasses on when your in the tanning booth otherwise no one will be fooled.

If you get a spray on tan and wear Eustkatel or Rabo kit people will mistake you for a carrot.

Just because you say it is wrong doesn't mean it is wrong. It just means you know how to spell the word wrong, and that you are able to type it repeatedly. You have to say WHY it is wrong...otherwise you are the one who is....wrong.

You really are a tool, aren't you?!

Ah, no, just a cyclist. A tool is someone who puts a picture of a movie star holding a gun as their photo, or something childish and silly like that.

It's funny when cyclist say they shave their legs in preparation for crashes. I guess it's simply a way to reframe the idea around something macho, because it really is something that seems feminine to most people. Make people think that cycling is actually a manly, radical, risky sport.....and so I have to shave my legs. Pretty funny.

53x11 says it's wrong because your saying shaiving your legs makes you go faster is like me saying wearing a red helmet makes me climb better. It's just not true.

Air is not water and a little bit of body hair will not induce enough drag to make a perceptible difference in speed. But a little bit of hair will increase friction when sliding on bitumen, wood or cement, will get in the way of applying a stick on plaster and will be less comfortable when getting a massage.

Change back down to your 25T on the front and pedal off to somewhere where people are more appreciative of creative fiction.

We spell that G A Y...oh **** it! It is the FAYEST thread ever. I'm going to bed and not try to think how high I'll shave for the next crit. Maybe that hot ER nurse will cut my skinsuit off again....

ouch! the snake charmer is an informed poster but the "avatar" is a bit much.

it's a little ambiguous but you can equate etiquette to i don't give a **** what normal people think. i am a cyclist and i'm loyal to the cause, i dont give a **** if you think it's gay, go watch reality TV you pussy while i finish this 75 mile (110k) training ride.

my part in making this thread less gay...

it's a little ambiguous but you can equate etiquette to i don't give a F*** what normal people think. i am a cyclist and i'm loyal to the cause, i dont give a F*** if you think it's gay and i don't need a flimsy excuse to shave my legs. go watch reality TV you pussy while i finish this hilly, ordinary, and routine 75 mile (110k) training ride in what you call "extreme" heat.

you're lady friend won't admit it to you but she digs my sculpted shaved nuclear power plants most people call quadriceps. good luck with the divorce and the drawn out custody battle!

who needs dope when you've got courage?

once again you are wrong. This time for three reasons:

1) I used one simple world because it was all I though your brain could handle, unfortunately I overestimated you.
2) I didn’t type it repeatedly but have mastered the wonders of the copy and paste function.
3) Refer to all the comments regarding how much of tool you must be.

Come on in the water is fine! Pro tour was just spouting of some more rubbish that he read in a Sally Jenkins book and then everyone else was just thinking how stupid this made him sound.

Make all the insults you'd like, but you still have said nothing to counter the valid points I made, Strawman.

Pro Tour. Berty is a more tolerant person than I am and has for some reason clearly stated why what you typed out was a massive, stinking pile of sh*t. I had assumed that your statements were so idiotic that they didn't warrant a coherent response. Please read it and then take his advice.

Must learn to check the url before clicking....

They managed to come to a conclusion pretty quickly

Well this topics been covered... and I agree, shaving sure helps when you crash. Road burn and hair don't mix. That's the reason BUT it does sure show off the results of all that hill work.

10 points goes to the Gay Forum. I should check there more for waxing tips!

As usual, all you have is lowbrow insults from the gutter you apparently come in.

1. The hair is measurable in aerodynamics tests, so it does make a difference.

2. Also, hair is slicker than skin, so what he said about shaving reducing friction was complete BS that suckers like you swallow daily; hook, line, and sinker.

3. Hair actually gives you protection in some situations, and makes the injuries and scrapes not as severe.

Here is an experiment for you:
Take a piece of sandpaper and scratch a hairy head with it.

Take a piece of sand paper and scratch a bald head with it.

Results are in my favor, case closed.
