What a fabulous win by Pinot. He was the strongest by a distance.

Let me never hear any fool here ever say anything as stupid as “Nibali doesn’t care about podiums, only wins matter to him” ever again.

Everyone in the group bar Dan Martin and Pozzovivo deserved to lose for that chase. What the hell were they thinking?

The two guys who made the winning move on the most iconic climb, Muro di Sormano, also finished 1st and 2nd. I couldn't be happier. They rode this race like the cobbled classics.

Now it's time that Côte de La Redoute gets honoured as well in Liege.

It's basically the Italian mountain version of 2010 Vlaanderen in that regard

Bøy! I only watched from sormano, but that was the best edition of lombardia I can remember. Nibali by now is just about my all time favourite rider, so a bit disappointed that he couldn't follow pinot, but he almost made up for it by his f-u to the chasers.

Who, if any, was the last to win msr and gdl the same season, by the way? I'm assuming merckx or hinault or someone like that. It would have been quite a feat..crossing fingers for next year.

What a champ Nibali is. Absolutely made a mockery of the chasers jumping the sorry lot of them

They were dead, simple as that. In these long classics, the strongest usually end up in the front, and the chase usually doesn't catch up because they just don't have the legs. Bahrein also did excellent demotivational work there, that probably helped.

Pozzovivo was NIbali's teammate. He did his job. He's not really that useful to sit on somebody's wheel though, cause no matter how much he wheelsucks he will still lose the sprint.

They were not all dead. Majka and Wellens got back to Martin, others then got back to the trio. If you can come back from being dropped, you could have done a turn. They weren’t as strong as Pinot, but that’s not the same as being unable to contribute to a group chase.

Nibali said post race he took a look at their faces, they looked dead alright so he attacked.
