Even in the classics, Asgrene and Alapgilipeps both have a contract year and were getting better at the end of 2023. Maybe wolfpack can even come back to their best.

Who does the controlling depends on the tactical situation of the race. The more of a threat you are seen as by the main favourites, the less likely that you're going to get away with a weak support team.

Would love to see that too. Last year in Tre Valli Varesine he showed that he's able to win 1-day races. He was also key to Remco's Liege team last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if he rides all Ardennes classics, but he'll have to be a domestique there.

Van Wilder thinks that the Tour team of Soudal - Quick-Step has received too much unnecessary criticism from media, experts and fans in the months leading in the Grande Boucle. Yesterday, we have witnessed the collective strength of UAE Team Emirates in its (nearly) full extent, with Tadej Pogacar's team pacing up most of the Galibier while still keeping three riders in the front group. Van Wilder is well aware that is something Wolfpack can't ever really match. "Sorry, but teams like UAE Team Emirates. They are not domestiques, but all leaders who ride for at least two million euros. That says it all. I always hear the same thing: they are not going to do it with those guys. They do not have the team for it. I am a bit fed up with it."

Considering people were claiming he was in bad shape, based on his Dauphiné performance, this was a pretty decent TT for him. Personally i think he can still do better, but this must have been nice for him. He beat Ayuso, Van Aert, both Yateses, Armirail, Gee, Rodriguez... and wasn't too far off Vlasov, Healy, Jorgenson etc (imho guys he should be able to rival with in TT's).
