There is some truth to that. Oregon's lead has helped the NW calendar but this area has too few cyclists to scare USAC into cleaning up. Where would they start? The complaints go to the same desks that need to be cleaned out.

USAC tries to assert a monopoly over all races. Do those monopolistic efforts better the membership's individual experiences? If the answer is yes, then this idea wouldn't work. If the answer is no, then members could organize and insist on the elimination of all bans on USAC riders riding in unsanctioned events. More particularly, the push should be to make the federation encourage unsanctioned events. That would weaken USAC, and broaden the sport at the same time. You could call the campaign the "Stop Being A Dick" campaign.

Some older stuff I didn't get to earlier.

Thom fires longtime techincal director. You have to wonder what went on there and what Shawn knows.

Thom re-arranges the BOD at USAC
http://www.usacycling.org/stapleton-nieroth-elected-chairs-of-usa-cycling-board-of-directors.htm Bob is a "champions club" contributor at USACDF.

Financial statement for 2013 shows membership revenue declining. But, revenue is up! Some combination of landing more sponsors or the USAC license holders are paying more per event attended.

The USACDF "management fees" tells you control of USAC is done by the USACDF.

Revenue cyclists paid for the privilege of attending various USA Cycling organized events including world championships do not show up on USAC's audit.

Apparently no growth as they did not publish the differences between 2012 and 2013. Oh, the irony of the Colorado district being identified as a "center of excellence." It's excellent that the independents were shut down.

Work for dopers

USA Cycling has job openings including the easiest sales job ever! You are working for a monopoly.

The funniest position is the Director of Communications. Baghdad Bob is uniquely qualified.
For those younger readers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Saeed_al-Sahhaf

His pronouncements included claims that American soldiers were committing suicide "by the hundreds" outside the city, and denial that there were any American tanks in Baghdad, when in fact they were only several hundred meters away from the press conference where he was speaking and the combat sounds of the nearing American troops could already be heard in the background of the broadcast. His last public appearance as Information Minister was on April 8, 2003, when he said that the Americans "are going to surrender or be burned in their tanks. They will surrender, it is they who will surrender".

Americans at the Tour de France

The Tour de France is the biggest and most prestigious competitive cycling event in the world. Throughout its 105-year history, Americans have made their mark with many remarkable performances. Because of the Tour’s notoriety, success comes in many different forms over the 21-day spectacle. Athletes who win a stage, wear the yellow leader’s jersey or finish on the final overall podium can claim success.

Two Americans – Greg LeMond and Lance Armstrong – have combined to win the Tour de France 10 times. LeMond, Bobby Julich and Levi Leipheimer added several more top-three overall finishes to the United States’ résumé.

Ten Americans – LeMond, Armstrong, Leipheimer, George Hincapie, David Zabriskie, Tyler Hamilton, Floyd Landis, Davis Phinney, Andy Hampsten and Jeff Pierce – can call themselves stage winners with victories in individual stages or team time trials. Armstrong’s 25 stage wins is an incredible feat likely never to be surpassed. In addition to Armstrong, LeMond (5), Hincapie (4), Landis (2) and Phinney (2) are the only Americans who can claim multiple stage wins throughout their Tour de France career. Other stage winners include Leipheimer, Zabriskie, Hamilton, Andy Hampsten and Jeff Pierce.

Despite 43 combined stage wins, 10 overall victories and a total of 14 final podium finishes, only four Americans have ever worn the yellow jersey in the Tour – LeMond, Armstrong, Hincapie and Zabriskie.

So, which Weisel puppet will take his place? Och?

Frankly, I'm surprised Bob Stapleton has thrown his hat in with this bunch - I always took him as reasonably sensible. Maybe I was wrong.

Ok, so Thom fires the techincal official guy, re-arranges the USAC board, Johnson leaves.....

Something is going to go public that's bad for USAC. :D At the pace of the latest Ferrari allegations, it could be a few months.

Will the COO/CFO that is never seen become President/CFO/COO?

If it does all fall apart for Weisel and his cronies then I wonder who or what would/could replace the vacuum?

USAC are doing a terrible job of growing and supporting cycling in the US. Numbers of participants in road and track are declining, the only beacon of hope is high school MTB.

Maybe British Cycling could take the whole operation over? ;)

But, that's the great thing about USAC, it can't ever fall apart as it is continuously funded by at least the USOC. It's been granted a government monopoly like all IOC sanctioned sports so it will never shut down.

Thom's USACDF owns a block of the Board. Members of the federation, the regional reps, have no influence over the direction of the federation. Thom operates it as he sees fit and no one has the authority to replace him. On this point, Thom is/was brilliant.

The rumor is competitive program funding inside USAC is now zero.

IMO, this was the end game for creating USACDF. USACDF already operates without any IOC/USOC restrictions. Now he's free to run doping programs again.

The high school cycling program most American enthusiasts know about is not affiliated with USAC.

CN reporting Bob Stapleton pulled the trigger on firing Johnson.

The gossipy question is, did Thom direct the firing, or did Bob?

BTW, Steve Johnson still technically works for USACDF, though his position as President (???) is/was unpaid. Maybe that is changing too. We have to wait for either public notification or the next IRS report listing USACDF's operating officers.

Unpaid? I thought he was getting $300k per year via the non-profit "development" program. Or was that a different program, maybe the Nor Cal Cycling Foundation?

No, USA Cycling paid him.

The IRS reporting on USACDF documents if officers are paid and how many hours they spend on the non-profit. I'm not an accountant, but I guess the rules are such USACDF had to disclose his related USAC salary.

Johnson apparently wasn't the only one pulling a six-figure salary.
