I didn't see Popo crack. Did he? It looked like he fell back with Brajkovic, Rubiera and Navarro to protect Lance, and never even tried to stay with Levi and Chris once Lance was dropped. Though he did finish a half minute ahead of them. Would like some clarification on this.

I just rewatched it and even before Lance dropped off, there was a group of three Astana near the front(Popo, Levi, and Horner) and a group of 4(LA and crew) riding near the back. Popo was still with the front group when LA when out the back, but not too much later was dropped himself along with several others. Never saw him back with the Armstrong group.

Conta is more leader today after LAnce performance of today. I cant believe that a team such AsTANA has to lost 3 riders to keep lancelot to the meta. I cant see AC in this Tdf pulling him by the Alpes. he is going to be in the first group with the big dogs. I wait that he could have some team mates in the first group and not to see that "old cow" suffering and losing time three Astana riders, specially Janie Brajcoviv. Shame on you MR:ARMSTRONG. ALL FOR THE MONEY is your slogan

Craziness

OK so this is the first week of the Giro. The first week people...not the end, not the Dauphine, not the Tour of Switzerland...its week one of the Giro.

1989 - Greg LeMond almost quits the Giro as he is getting shelled day after day. He came close to quitting the sport during said Giro, then comes back and wins the Tour in the best finish ever.

For the love of Pete...Lance is waht 5 weeks removed from surgery to fix his shattered collar bone. (4 pieces, 13 screws and a titanium plate)

How many of you know it alls have ever even raced a bike?

How many have broken a collar bone racing a bike and gotten on a week later?

Lance is the biggest draw in cycling, its that simple and Contador the great is orders and seconds away from having only won the Giro.

Levi lost the Vuelta on time bonuses and destroyed AC in the final time trial. Another 5K and Levi wins that tour.

Contador was fading in the Tour win and who was catching him...Levi.

Let him go...without Bruyneel, Contador might win another major tour, but he wont beat Levi again. Lance who knows, but I sure wouldn't bet against him.

As J.B. applies His art...

As Johan B. applies His art, He will want to keep Contador happy. that will almost insure a LIVESTRONG victory, either way.

BOAZMOSS,

A.C. isn't there for a reason. Team Livestrong can not have all their G.C. contenders in all the grand tours.

I expect Levi to sit out the Tour de France and come out for the Tour of Spain. -They have to race in Spain too.

+1 but then again Lance wouldn't have had as many TdF wins if it wasn't for his teams....

what if AC went to Saxxo-Bank?

Speak for yourself there...maybe that's true for a lot of people but frankly LA could be going for the hour record in my back garden and I'd shut the curtains, and I'm definitely not alone in feeling that way.

Maybe LA is not doing anything stellar because he hasn't recovered, maybe it's because he doesn't have it any more - either way, unless he does get back to top form I don't think it does the sport any good to maintain this obsessive focus on what he's doing.

Maybe he does draw a lot of people into the sport, but where's the value in it if they never develop their interest beyond what LA is doing.

Uh, you may want to pay a little more attention. Quite a few of us, including some on a pro level. Maybe even someone you've heard of.

Nothing compared to Tyler. But then again, he was doped to his eyeballs. Right?

Let him go...without Bruyneel, Contador might win another major tour, but he wont beat Levi again. Lance who knows, but I sure wouldn't bet against him.

Lot of "if's" in your post. 200m less, and Fignon would have won the 1989 Tour. 10m more and Museeuw would have won the 1992 Flanders. 1m less and Steve Bauer the 1990 Roubaix. Give me time, I'll think of a lot more. But one thing I won't think, and that is that Contador won his GT's by luck.

If I were to guess, and I'll let you guess too, I'd say Contador is heading into the prime of his career. I'd even speculate that the best is yet to come. Levi and Lance are both in the sunset of their careers. If you were forming a team today from scratch, who would you sign first? Who would you base your team around? Not just five years from now, but this year too?

I raced back in the 1970's under USCF, local races.

No never broke a collarbone or any bone, but had many crashes , road rashes, etc.

I still believe that AC is the man for the GT's and JB will not let him go. LA and JB are very good friends so they stick together like glue. AC will stay with JB, he is that guys meal ticket!!

Didn't this come up earlier when LA announced his comeback and JB said something to the effect of - he has a contract and we won't let him out of it. I know that may change if he's not getting paid, but unless the entire team folds i dont see how AC can join another team. Anyone know otherwise?
