So the chance at winning a Grand Tour is a step back, who write's this boys script because they must be as much of a cretin as he is.......best step forward would be learning HOW to win a GT!

"Maybe I'm the leader, but I'm not the road captain," he said.

- Yep be confident son. Don't hold back there. Maybe you are. Maybe you're not.

We all know Contador is his road captain. Without him in the race he's totally clueless.

"I don't really know how you should train descents. I think that it's a little too dangerous to train on," he said.

- Where's Lance? Is he beating this boy across the back of the head for making such admissions?

Did he really say this?!? Have you got a link? I'm amazed - that's fairly idiotic even by his standards. JB must be thrilled :p

Lance might be a cheating, coniving, and vindictive piece of sh*t but he was utterly ruthless when it came to winning the Tour. Give the opposition no sign of weakness that they might be able to exploit, and if you have one, work bloody hard to ensure that you get better at it. Everyone can be not so good at a discipline - TT most obviously for the Schlecks, but their opponents have no control over that. Saying you are scared not only of racing downhill (like he did last summer) but to train on them? How else does he expect to get better? And he's on a team with one of the best descenders in the peloton, so who better to learn from. What a tool.

Maybe as in I may be or although I'm the team leader. No doubting who is the team leader at the start as he qualified later by stating he doesn't have a problem riding for Klodi after the 2nd week if he is ahead of him.

Despite the tool reference I will refer you the home page of CN;)

He also believes he could limit his losses to 20 seconds in the 40km TT.

How stupid is he. He would be lucky to loss then than 3 minutes to Wiggins in the TT.

So one minute he is being called stupid admitting his problems with descents and now he is stupid for believing he can improve his TTing.

The feeding frenzy on here is really starting to get tedious.

I think he was called a coward rather than stupid for his problems with descents though I wouldnt level the accusation since I would literaly **** myself if I had to go down some of those mountains.

However I do think he is a bit silly, however admirable his otpimism may be, of thinking he can limit his losses in a tt to 20 seconds, unless the person hes looking to limit his losses to is Jurgen Van Den Broeck.

I would even be open minded as to his ability to improve, if he hadnt gone into Grenoble, fairly confident he could keep the yellow, and then lose nearly 3 minutes.

Maybe he meant to say that he wants to limit his losses in the prologue to 20 seconds.

Bruyneel 2010: avoid giving away the money match for free. That's why Lance kept bouncing from events Contador was running then (until Contador bounced to the same event at CritInt).

IMO that was just Bruyneel's lame justification. The real reason was that they'd been focused on psyching Contador out and diminishing his confidence. Perhaps they were afraid that Contador would outshine The Boss and thus spoil their efforts.

Ah my bad, hadn't seen that article when I wrote that comment.

Who are you referring to?

Cancellara

I'm not arguing with the fact that he doesn't like descending, but with admitting it so openly. That's surely a red rag to a bull for all his oponents every time there is a descent in the Tour. For that matter, Wiggins isn't too hot going downhill either...

That seems more like it but I think that even someone with as little brain cells as Andy (all gone due to excessive partying) knows that a prologue isn't 40 km long. I have to give him that much.

No its fun trust me Hitch. I haven't done much in the Alps but the buzz I got from catching and overtaking cars (on the wrong side of the road). You have to show no fear going down descents and Andy shows fear to the world. He could have hid his dislike for descents instead of shouting it from the roof tops.

Also not Andy but Frank admitting that the don't like shorter stages like Modane - Alp d'Huez. They don't hide there weaknesses do they!!!!

No wonder this thread is hot, he also said this nonsense:
"I've been three times second in the Tour so I think it would be a step back in my career if I say ‘'I'm not going to win the Tour, so I'll try and win the Giro,' Schleck said in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. "I want to win the Tour. I don't want to go back and start with the Giro and see if maybe I can go back and reach the level to win the Tour.

So competing in a race he has zero chance of winning is a step forward?

Its sad he puts the Giro so far behind the Tour, an error in my opinion.

I agree that descents can be quite a thrill, but its different when youve been pushed to the limit on the climb, exhausted totally, dont have much blood going to your brain, are racing against top descenders and watching your hopes vanish before your eyes.

If it bugs you, then do not partake.

Admitting weaknesses and pointing out you don't train for them (decending is dangerous , in the past he has said he does not train his TT or his weaknesses) = not so bright. Stating you can achieve an unrealistic goal (minor loss of time in a TT) also is not so bright.

Unfortunately, Andy tends to say some pretty stupid things. He has obvious talents. His mental aspect is not one of them :D
