Ah, so you are the culprit. :)

It is better for the more vicious arguments to take place in that thread than in others because the Armstrong thread can be avoided by those who don't want to deal with that constant battle.

The "be nice" LA thread makes it obvious that the CN people don't really have a clue about the dynamic of the forum. As I said before, it is drive by moderation. If they don't want members arguing about Armstrong, which they well because he polarizing, in the Armstrong thread then where do they expect such arguments to take place. It looks to me like Amster is aiming to acheive his goal of censoring any discussion of Armstrong that is not to his liking.

If nothing about Armstrong doping should be mentioned in the thread then that should be defined to include ridiculous claims that he raced clean.

I agree that if there have to be "vicious arguments" pro and con LA, these should as far as possible be limited to one topic.

Come on Bro, lighten up and cut it out. I am not for censoring discussion whether it's to my liking or not (I am not that arrogant or important!) , nor did I ask Susan or anyone else to post a 'clean' or 'nice' LA topic. The only suggestion I made was to close the original thread due to its size (and this suggestion was made yesterday before the thread deteriorated and was closed for other reasons), and to immediately continue with the exact same topic, except then Part 2 starting at 0 pages. That's all.

What, that you want to censor what others post? Nope. That one stands. You have proved your intention time and time again, including your post today to the Armstrong thread. :p

I guess there is clearly no reasonable communication possible with you. You keep repeating total fabrications - typical of you - shout long and hard enough and people will eventually just give up.

I have proved nothing of the kind, another figment of your highly suspect imagination. As for my post today, only someone whose head is so far in a dark and unpleasant place could find anything wrong with that. I refuse to take part in the childish name-calling going on, and that makes me pro-censorship?

I will have limited access in the next three weeks as I'll be on holiday in the US. I wonder if all will be sweetness and light on the forum because I"m not there? You were meant to step back from the edge, you said, yet you continue to provoke and post blatant lies - that is the 'free' expression of your opinion that you pretend I would deny you. You really are a very sad person.

You make a post telling everyone you won't be posting any more to the thread and telling everyone you have put on your enemies list--err, I mean your self defined hater community--that they should not post anything either, that they should find other topics to post about because they are "obssessed." Maybe if you did not want to post any more to a thread, you could--I know this concept is hard to conceptualize, but try--not post to the thread. That is it. Just don't post. Since you will no longer be posting to that thread, what do you care what people post there? Keep your mouth shut about what other people choose to post about. Sounds to me like you are very much in favor of censoring what others post, even when you no longer intend to participate in the discussion.

And once again you disprove your claim to be an older and reasonable person who wants to get rid of insults from the forum.

No matter what is spoken

No matter how it is spoken

No matter the Intention

There will always be misunderstanding

Please, think about this before engaging in more war of words.

1. You have very serious reading comprehension issues, probably due to your obsession. You yet again deliberately misinterpret the few clear words I wrote to suit your personal obsession. Referring to your obsession is a statement of fact. Your obsession is demonstrated for all to see every day that you post.

2. Calling you a "sad person" is also not an insult, it's simply the logical conclusion that any fair-minded impartial reader would come to when confronted with your posting behavior. You demonstrate your stalking troll behavior, your pathetic obsession, and your dishonesty every single day that you post.

3. You suggested 'stepping back', yet you are the one continuing with your childish vendetta by stalking me and "mocking" posts that have nothing to do with you. You post blatant lies and refuse to retract them. But hey, keep digging your own grave.

Amsterhammer and BroDeal, you've gone beyond contributing anything useful to this thread.

This is not the place for you two to verbally jab each other. . . in this thread as well as every other thread one or the other posts in.

I don't find it funny or entertaining . . . though some apparently do in a sadly misguided way.

If you want to continue, I suggest you use your own email as I for one don't want to see any more. I could just not come to this forum anymore . . .but why should I leave just because 2 angry, fearful people are dead set on mutual destruction?

If this is what the forum is to be, CN can have it. . .but I suspect it is not what CN had in mind.

I agree with your sentiments, but not your one-sided view. The rabidly pro-Lance crew are just as bad and just as populous as the anti-Lance bunch. You are just generally on the pro-Lance side and hence feel the anti-Lance sentiments, but I know I get blown away by some of the comments from the pro-Lance crew when I post something negative about Lance regardless of how well informed that opinion may be.

All i have to do is look at the past history of posters and threads here to see that's not true. Even pre Giro new people coming her were pummeled mercilessly if they didn't toe the party line. It's widely know that cycling forums in general and this forum in particular or are havens for people to gather for Lance Armstrong hate fests. There's a lot of really vile stuff here.
You even have tour pros now making references to forums as places of unreliable information and crackpot ideas ala Cav saying "where'd you get that idea? some bike forum."
It's become a bit of a laughingstock really.

Well as a willing participant - welcome to the laughingstock!
I found it amusing that you replied to Elapids post after what happened earlier!
However -we are trying to move forward on these issues - again having a strong point of view is fine but I think the general consensus is that personal insults and attacks are really not necessary. If you have any ideas on how to help progress this issue then that would be really welcome.

Apparently not. This is a good thread, it showed that there are some who equate an alternate perspective as a challenge to their honour, but there are also those who just want to talk about bikes. Someone put it nicely, it is up to us to decide if we want to take the bait and keep piling on the dung.

I'd say that's a typical 'lock up' for a bike in Amsterdam hehe

It seems to ease off a little, it is becoming more and more enjoyable again!

I have been lurking on this forum for months before deciding to post. I actually find the psychology of anonymous internet forums very interesting. Reading everything here and not commenting has, at times, been an exercise in self-restraint. You can learn a lot from lurking and observing the posts of others and get a very good idea of the climate on a forum without actually joining. So, it may not be accurate to judge a poster’s level of familiarity with the forum or cycling in general by their number of posts or the time for which they have been registered. There are more members here that are not necessarily a member of the pro-LA camp or the anti-LA camp (that seems to be the most divisive issue here). This third group of posters would fall somewhere in the middle. I have observed one poster in particular who seemed to start out in the pro-LA camp and then, with time, move gradually to the middle. I have not seen the same thing happen from the other side, though. I see my own views changing slightly by some of the things that have been expressed on here. I only say this to illustrate how lurking can give one a view to the behavior of forum members and how that behavior may evolve over time with increased exposure to new ideas presented by others. A rule that I try to set for myself in forums is to never post anything anonymously that I wouldn’t be comfortable saying in my own name. I would suggest that if posters want a more civil, respectful forum, then they at least try to hold to that principle as well as they can. If nothing else, it forces you to really articulate what you say beforehand and maybe get your point across better than using harsh insults. That being said, you all suck !!!! ;)
