On the heels of a Roglstompless Emilia, let's see what the hive has to say: Has Father Time come for our guy Roglic?

Yes, he's obviously past his prime. He has been past his prime since 2022 started. However, the question is HOW much he's off his prime, and as of right now it looks by quite a bit.

Yeah as soon as I posted this I realized a better poll would be to show by how much rather than when his prime was, but people voted quickly so I couldn’t edit it.

How is:
Is Roglic past his prime?
even a question?
The only dilemma is to which degree he's past his prime and therefore how close to being washed-up.

That said, Alaphilppe won Quebec this year and a Giro Stage last year, so...
Unless we are talking about the last 5 years of Froome, it's all relative.

Yes, just like Pogi is past his prime (2024).
Lol. Pog is very much still in his prime, which can be backed up results. You cant say the same thing for Roglic.

You would say Roglic was in his prime 2019 then? Good to know you think he has been on the decline and washed for so long. :)

He is more past his prime than Pogi is. Less than Froome.

Similar to Valverde in 2018 or 2019.
So when he actually won the World Championship?
The crazy thing about Valverde, is that in 2022, as a 42 year old, putting aside the 'Gran Camino' "stuff" and such, he did:

- 2° at Strade Bianche (and 1° was Pogi, so it doesn't really count)
- 2° at Flèche Wallonne
- 4° at Giro dell'Emilia
- 3° at Tre Valli Varesine (again: 1° was Pogi)
- 6° at Lombardia

As a 42 y.o. !!!

Imagine a normal rider, retiring after said results.

I think he hit a peak the last couple years and has had a really strong 2019-2024 peak that he’s not far off of. I think he’s lost some punch but might be a better climber. Crashes have gotten in the way, but that can also be a symptom of slowdown.

Declining, but slower than some would claim. Still the 5th best rider in the world in my book.
That's hard to agree with.

I hope he proves me wrong next season but his outings today and at Worlds are not encouraging given his ideal preparation.

I think in 2022 his decline started. He had his knee thing which was apparent in Itzulia and he didn’t have a single proper 2020-2021 like stomp after that and I always believed he adapted his style to adapt to his knee situation. 2022 was the year I thought he was done but came back strong in 2023 with some memorable performances and an almost-stomp in Emilia and his Vuelta 2024 was exceptional.

2025 however, is the worst year he’s had since he joined in 2016. Even though one can’t completely disregard the possibility of a rebound, it doesn’t seem that likely. Looks like his spark and ambition are gone…

I think Roglic is past his prime in the mental drive department mostly. Physically, he still has the ability to get close his best level, but I think the fact that he's had so many crashes, issues within his own teams (ie struggle with leadership), and simple moving onto an "older" mindset, he doesn't seem to get there. Along with combined rise of Pogacar, Vingegaard, and Evenepoel, he's no longer at the absolute top. I still think he can win many races, even another Giro or Vuelta, if the circumstances are ideal, but he is past his prime at racing. It pains me to say it because I really like the guy, but such is life. He has awesome palmares and has a huge fan base. I hope he stays competitive while he's racing and doesn't stay too long if he' not at near-top level.

Definitely on the decline, peak somewhere between 2019-2023. Right now Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, Almeida, Del Toro are all better riders for the races that Roglic is targetting. Pidcock probably as well.

Age affects us all.

I didn’t include 2022 because, while he might have been at his prime, that year went so badly due to crashes and injuries that there was no way to see what he had. This was not a well constructed poll though.

What ideal preparation? Where is this info coming from? I'm not sure how ideal is that you have to take extra time to rest after TdF, squeeze in 14 days of altitude training because you can't prepare good just in Monaco and arrive to Rwanda last minute.
