is team sky the worst team tactically in cycling?

In terms of 'burning up the doms' I dont think so, several Sky riders have done very little so far and are being kept fresher for the next 2 weeks.
Plus if you'd have said to me a week ago that Froome would be ahead of all his rivals at this stage and fairly significantly ahead of Quintana and Nibali I'd have laughed.

Sky have ridden this first week perfectly. A week designed for classics specialists, a week where everyone, on this forum and elsewhere (including me), thought Froome was likely to lose time, with echelons, cobbles and hills, and he's come through it in the lead.

It feels like "Sky are clueless" was supposed to be the story of the week, and therefore it is, regardless of reality.

Today, Froome was just making sure his rivals couldn't come past him, hard to see exactly what he did wrong. He's still in yellow, didn't lose any time to anyone important for the GC, and gained time on Nibali.

It's just wishful thinking, combined with out and out hatred, take a look at the Sceptics posts, he has a real hatred for all things Sky, I feel a bit sorry for him to be honest.

Not sure if Team Sky is bad tactically, but Froome is definitely riding like a headless chicken. Bjarne was also confused on Danish TV

and like ferrari, bjarne is a fabulous person to quote when analyzing cycling. lol.

Since this was inevitable, should make it clear that Clinic talk must be kept out of here.

To answer you, whatever clinic related matters Riis might have been involved in, that's not an argument to dismiss his sporting insight.

Does it matter? He still knows a lot about cycling and tactics.

a lot more than Brailsford and random sky fans, that's for sure. No matter what you think of sir Bjarne he was always a great DS.

Once sky hit the mountains tactics wont matter anymore, kennaugh, Thomas and roche will progressively reduce the peleton to 20 riders, konig will reduce it to 10, poels to 5 and porte will launch Froome. All the bitter bertie, nibali fans will then launch their usual winging.

You'd be surprised to find out some people are fans of neither. Can we not make this a Froome Vs Contador Vs Nibali fans argument, when it's not. Thanks. Just keep on-topic, the first part of your post is just fine.

Agreed, David Walsh would call this a tactical masterclass. That, by the way, is pretty easy when you have 40 watts to spare.

Todays dumbass prize should go to FDJ, with Morabito riding next to Porte for Pinot who was 40 places back....

Cyclists are so dumb. Good thing they have teammanagers given orders through headsets who are former cyclists

edit: I notice our new member Koran has finally put on his beard

Wow, in one anecdote you disprove the intention of this thread.

Think SKY's tactics were spot on today, the only thing was just Froome riding at the front.. He should just have slowed down a little and let riders like Martin, Sagan etc fight for victory. They positioned him perfect contra Tinkoff where Contador was too far back at the start.

nonetheless bad tactics helped to put 10 sec into the shark. not bad for froome

Yeah, but he should have got that info in the ears, so he could have continued. From a helicopter view you could see that he stopped pulling when Nibali was dropped. He could have putted maybe 20 seconds into him. Maybe Contador got the info and that's why he suddenly tried to attack/up the pace for Sagan.

agreed. froome is not a master of effective tactical decisions, to put it mildly. :D the stage was all about defense and not losing time for big boys though

Don't know about the last 5 years, but Wonderlance has a thread on how Sky will dominate cycling at least until 2018.

show me...I havent sen anyone say that unless they were trolling...

How is Froome being in yellow proof that SKy are good tactically? Its what we have always said, they just have the guy(s) who push out the most watts and end up winning despite tactics.

The echelons stage is not what got Froome the yellow jersey. Froome would have the yellow jersey regardless. He got it from smashing everyone bar Purito on the single gc stage of the race. Which is what many/ most of us always said would happen as we picked Froome to win the Tour despite his teams poor tactics, because he is by far the strongest in the race.

And one of the reasons Sky's poor tactics, for all those asking the "why do you pick on Sky" question, get brought up is that they claim to be the most intelligent and most tactically astute team in the peloton, dismissing other teams as amateur and full of idiots. Yet its the same team that should have easily got 1-2 in the 2011 Vuelta and somehow managed to not win it.

Well that would invalidate about 90% of what Sky defenders post ;)
