Is there an uglier peddler than Evans?

I actually quite liked Bernhard Kohl's nodding-dog style. It wasn't as awkward as Escartín or Soler, that's for sure. Paco Mancebo's trying to climb sideways is pretty graceless, and Chris Anker Sørensen's style is pretty grim too, especially accentuated by his gurning with effort.

Besides Escartin and Mancebo, it use to pain me to watch Botero when he'd attack in a big gear, in the saddle, and in the downdrops.

Nibali screws rabbits on his bike. True story.

when he is suffering he does. i would actually say that on steep stuff like bola del mundo and the zoncolan his peddling style looks like mass murder but other then that he is stylish on his bike.

Going up a climb that's bazillion percent steep tends to make a rider look less stylish.

As for Evans, it is kinda weird how he's hunched over the bike compared to the rest with elbows everywhere. Seems to work him for though.

To be fair before ripping the poor guy entirely apart, I thought I had heard/read that a 'childhood accident' was partly to blame for his sideways head action...?

Evans body shape

If he was built like Contador, Schleck(s), Sam Sanchez, Gesink, he probably wouldn't have that style.
Armstrong had an extra-long femur!
Evans forte is not climbing, he's secondary to the others, he hasn't got a brother to 1-2! And what has his looks got to do with how he rides!
I reckon people that go on about how ugly someone else is are usually thug ugly themselves.

Cadel looks ugly when he's selling stuff?

It's a cycling forum.
At least learn the difference between peddle and pedal.

The reason he rides in such a way is firstly because of breaking his collarbones 7 times therefore he swinds the bike a lot more but it has also to do with his mountain biking background. Rasmussen who was a mmountain biker wasn't the prettiest on the bike either. Evans' style is quite awkward

Yesterdays stage 14 Contador and Schleck were just lighting tapping away, Evans is in the drops hunched over looking like he's sprinting for the win just to keep up. Looks like he's putting in more effort but I've come to realise it's just his style.

Chris Anker Sørensen is awkward to watch, I'm waiting for him to collapse off the side of his bike still clipped in.

Does that make me `peddling squares`?

Hairy Wheels nailed it... throw many of us on the Plateau de Beille against Evans` rivals and you`d see some nasty, sideways-biking, snot-chucking, ugly pedaling. For about 800m until we got spat out the back.

But yeah, he`s not the smoothest but he sure wrings the most out of what he`s got. Respect for that.

What stage were you watching. Frank and Andy said they were feeling the heat in the interviews as well. It is purely based on style. Some people look pretty on a bike and other don't. Just because he was uhunched over doesn't mean he is necessarily on the limit.

Evans seems to be sitting down on the saddle when riding tempo now instead of swinging his bike around.

Well most of us here probably have heads like robber's dogs, which means that Cadel's pedaling looks more attractive than us anyway. :p

Mancebo had/has the ugliest pedaling/riding style I've ever been unfortunate to witness.

On a more serious note, it obviously works for him, since he is a world class cyclist, but all those unnecessary swinging and pulling motions DO cost precious energy, so its safe to assume that if he could pedal properly he would be even better cyclist.

Maybe as ACF says it's the collarbones. He wasn't this awkward looking in 2002.

I was more disturbed by his voice. His voice doesn't fit his looks - IMO. I expected him to have a somewhat deep and dark voice

His voice fits him perfectly. I heard he's doing the voice of Mickey Mouse in the cartoons to make some extra bucks.

With Johan Museeuw doing Minnie Mouse :p

I think Basso has the most elegant pedaling style of the GC favorites here. Is used to love Ricco's and Pantani's style as well, but they're not around anymore.

He'll surely have a bright career in the cartoon scene when he quits cycling ;)

Have you ever heard Mike Tyson speak - that's freaky. ;)

And I think Contador has fantastic style when he's climbing, he makes it look so easy.
