You make your statements based on what? The news? The internet? Please. Wow, thats credible.

I can tell you that the media blitz on the drug problem here in Mexico has been blown way out of proportion just like the swine flu. Remember that swine flu?
The reporting in the states is very misleading.
crime is down 30% in my town

A flat bed truck loaded with Tarahumara women watching the race. Epic. Cycling in Mexico is gritty and real, how it should be.

I thought this race was going to the dogs as well but with Birillo in the field I think it will be alright!

A merely mentioned a fact. Which snowballed. If you care to read the rest, I wished for a safe and good race. ;)

The Bottleneck ...

720,000 Euro crit. lottery on a holiday

Mexican riders grind their teeth after the transformation of the stage race in to a kirmesse Criterium.
Jesus Grajeda, a native of Chihuahua and spokesperson of the home riders, believes that this event will not serve the cause of local cycling: "What we used to have was Basso, Vinokourov, the Schleck, Freire and other riders out of shape, wasting large sums for their holiday and pay to ride a couple of hours stage.
The profit for the few riders from Chihuahua was committed to ride with them without being able to try to beat them. "

The budget for the 2009 event was 14.6 million pesos (approximately € 890,000).
In 2010, the criterium will cost 11.8 million pesos (approximately € 720,000). The protesters would have preferred that the organizers drop the level 2.1 to organize a smaller but profitable Tour for cycling in Mexico instead of turning gratitude in to a circus.
Ricardo Creel Ryan, event director, sees things differently: "We have a world event, the best criterium of the world will be in Chihuahua, the international press is already getting prepared and talking about it".

A total burn on the Mexican Stage race riders. What is up with the crit. Not really sport just a celebration of stars. Why not just send them 10000 Euro each and let them vacation in Cancun Acapolco or Vallerta. Some Mexican bankers and businessmen are just padding their pockets with stolen money again.Vive le MeXico. Where the real gangsters are the legitimate businessmen and poiticians. Not the cartels.

That's because the bad guys have killed 30% of the other bad guys. Wait a little longer and crime will be down 50%. :)

I thought Chihuahua left Mexico and got a spokesdog job with Taco Bell.

There's been 25,000 people murdered since 2006 in the drugs war in Mexico. Chihuahua being in the middle of it. More suspect money in cycling. Shame. And don't tell me cycling in Mexico is apart from that. Sadly it's ingrained itself (drug money) in all aspects of sports in said country. Lets hope the race is a safe one and all riders don't crash either.

Quite, Chihuahua is extremely dangerous at the moment. I would have though the only way to ensure the race was safe would be sort the cartels financially.

Yeah, but not only that - we might have another Jerseygate on our hands in these 2 races, with riders already announced not riding for their current teams anymore.
For example Schleck just announced the Vuelta was the last race for Saxobank, I wonder what's he gonna wear then ?

Cancun? Why bring bicycles. Just bring the penny loafers and golf clubs. Cancun is a trash receptacle.

Is this a real race, or a gimmick criterium like the ones after the Tour de France? That's quite a startlist. Also, I like the name of team Boyaca.
