Vingegaard has frequently stated that he would love to have Roglic by his side in the TdF.
Well, yes. He probably knows he will not be able to live up to the expectations this year. But the team had other thoughts in mind. The good thing is that this opens up the possibility of the double for Rogla.

not sure what to expect from Gaudu here, even without an ITT. He said he was sick after Paris-Nice and that he'd mainly do Itzulia to prepare for the Ardennes, but in the same interview also stated that he aims for Top 3 GC. Could go either way, I guess

We have entered a stage where guys like Aranburu, Schelling and Vendrame get more stars on the table than Hayter. In normal circumstances he should be the comfortable favorite for today, but he has been awful after his crash in Aus and wasn't much better prior to. Positioning has always been a gigantic issue with him, but Mini Wout hasn't been seen for a long time. Not even half a year has passed since he schooled and destroyed Ganna on the track in the pursuit.

In fairness, an Aranburu in top form (and it's his home race, so he will definitely be good here) is strong enough to give the normal version of Hayter trouble.

So glad I'm getting to hear the Burgos director giving directions to get 17th on the stage I can't even understand.

Hoping Quinten Hermans can show something in Itzulia. His last prep race for the hilly classics as a (co-)leader. He's fast, maybe a chance today.
