That corner was the last in a series of sweeping turns before a short straightaway section. I wonder if the arc of that last bend was tighter than the others and thus easy to misjudge. I crashed (more like slid out) on the very last of a long series of switchbacks because the final turn had a different arc. Definitely pilot error, but also had to anticipate.
That's great news! From what I saw (I stopped watching because I couldn't stand anymore pictures of riders motionless), he looked to be in serous condition.

Moments before, they did a right-hand curve which was even tighter. But the road at the crash site appears to be off-camber. There are un-paved driveways next to it, so the tires of a tractor or truck could've spread mud which dries into dust.
At the very front the Trek guy slid out first ..in front of him Remco jumped a boulder (?) and went through 2 trees before sliding on to his side and over handlebars before stopping...behind the Trek guy a UAE rider went straight to a boulder and went over it

One thing is for sure between all of us internet professional bike racers and the actual item, Spanish roads are some of the most reconned in all of cycling, the country is home for many teams and training ground for teams based elsewhere, this race is heavy on Spanish conti squads and it's guaranteed that almost everyone is familiar or semi familiar with the road conditions.
Saying anything about excessive dangerous conditions is silly, and real on the ground conditions could have been way way worse w the race seeing rain and hale earlier. Spain is a cycling paradise, give or take crashing into a cement drainage culvert. Many of the guys in the ditch probably rode up and down this road before, or one identical to it.

Watching again the replay, Remco's bike wobbled even before the Lidl rider started to crash, before he crossed the line between the left and right halfs of the road.
Whatever injury he might have, Remco is to me by far the luckiest today. If his wheels veered right instead of left after he landed from his hop, he would probably went head or chest first against the tree trunk.

Looks like maybe a Lidl-Trek rider hit Remco's wheel from behind...

He jumped the whole ditch but landed unstabilized.
That’s what it looked like to me. I’ve done that enough times on cross country skies when I knew I couldn’t make a downhill turn.

I think it was over with Vingo, i am not happy he got injured and wish him well, but without him tdf actually just got started and will be more competitive

What Mihai is suggesting is impossible, imo.
Judging by the head-on camera, in every frame there is enough space between Remco and any rider around him at any time before the Lidl Trek rider crash, to say something like that.

I'm pretty sure there was no contact.
Remco was braking hard on his rear wheel while going over those tree roots, trying to make the curve this way. You can see his rear wheel moving erroneously. The Trek rider tried, at the same time, to round the curve without braking too much, resulting in his front wheel sliding out.
Credit to Kruijswijk by the way, who after checking on Vingegaard went and checked out all the other riders in that spot as well.
