So Sky basically signs all the best U-23 riders, thank goodness they didnt get Remco otherwise it had been very grim.

What's to stop them from recruiting Remco too with visions of big money, strong support and world adulation?

Quick Step got him to sign a piece of paper.

That didn't stop Wiggins from jumping ship from Garmin to Sky, while still being under contract with Garmin for the 2010 season.

Nor did it stop Sosa to move from Androni to Sky.

Sky payed a huge release fee.

That is my point.

Most athletes these days won't turn down a bigger salary. I don't really blame them as their careers are over by mid thirties or earlier and not all of them have an alternate career or are well educated. The circumstances of the deal are the only real eyebrow raiser and it's not as if it hasn't happened before, often it ends up in court.

Agreed. I don't know his personal circumstances, but he hasn't had a chance yet to make much money cycling and has a limited amount of time to do, so I'm not going to criticize him much for this.

This is the story of a guy who got a job offer from company A, and, as he was about to sign, got a better offer from company B.

But this is also the story of some other guys who think the first guy should have acted as THEY wanted, because they know better, so, because he didn´t, they disown him; just a question, are you going to support his family when he retires at 33?

May the man who hasn´t change jobs for more money throw the first stone; I guess there where contracts involved too.

Please inform yourself of the facts. It's not only about the written contract with Trek.

He broke a contract with his agents in shady circumstances that may or may not be illegal - that's for the court to decide later - but were certainly immoral, and on top of that he admitted to having a verbal agreement that he broke. Verbal agreements are binding by law.

I'll throw the first stone because I've never agreed a verbal contract with an employer, posted video on the internet admitting it, screwed over the agents I have under a separate contract, and then deny the same things that I already admitted on the video.

Ivan, you were the Chosen One! You were supposed to destroy the Sky, not join them. You were supposed to bring balance to the Tour de France, not leave it in darkness.

Oh, he won't be in France next year. I suspect that he'll be dishing out the pain in Italy on behalf of Darth G.

Ivan Sosa would never be good enough to beat a Sky train anyway. A Sky beater needs to be half decent in an individual time trial, Sosa is godawful and then some.

So that means sky will dominate until sosa's son arrives? Oh boy, we are in for some dark decades :D

Ok, now please read my previous post and point where I said there where no contracts, verbal, or signed; now please tell me where does it shows that I´m not informed of the facts.

I´m just pointing out that Sosa is not a slave, if he want´s to break his contract he is allowed to; if there are fines involved then he has to pay; there´s no difference from an employee going from company A to company B.

The Trek guy thought he had the contract in his pocket when he hasn´t; haven´t you ever lost a contract you thought was yours? I have, it sucks, but until it´s signed it´s not actually yours, thats the way contracts are; and even if you have a signed contract you can break it, there are usually clauses that allow that, a contrant can be halted by common agreement or by one of the parts.

And without knowing the actual terms of the agreements between Sosa and his managers calling this immoral, shady, etc. is going a bit too far.

We need someone to balance the TdF not to leave it in Skyness.

No, it's not the same. He's not the regular employee that can be replaced anytime with a equivalent person. It's a talented cyclist, within a limited pool of riders, and breaking a contract in September has deep repercussions for the team. And probably for the future Colombian riders that are currently using the Italian connection to get a contract in Europe and escape the tainted Latin American amateur scene.

Let's say you are a promoter, and thru representatives you sign a band to play in a venue.
The band seems so happy that even records a videoclip declaring they are very pleased to play there.
You, as a promoter, starts all the processes and pay advances fees to reserve the venue, to the advertisement company. The concert is announced.
All of a sudden, you get thru the media, the news. The band declares that the representatives are being ditched and that they won't honor the contract... instead, they will play in the same city, in a different venue with a different promoter.

What's the deal now? On PCS his team for the next two years is Trek-Segafredo...
Are there any news?
Last I heard he was confirmed for Sky, I guess they're just slow with updating

Well, they were probably a bit too quick when the original Trek announcement came out. Then again, why wouldn't they have expected that the original "he's going to Trek" announcement was actually... true?
