Less sad than caring for a rider just because he speaks the same language as oneself. Unlike Rasmussen, Fuglsang just isn't worth cheering for. Only Danes and Astana fans like him.

Complete BS

He is one of the most respected riders in the Peloton, which is widely known, by anyone who follows professional roadracing closely.

As for it being "sad" to cheer for your countrymen in sports........ ROFL

This is an interesting mind game I'm often used to play with myself. I almost never cheer for my fellow countrymen unless they got something that intrigues me for real. But when I see my fellow sports minded countrymen almost in teers for something beautiful or cruel, I also find it very touching and spectacular to see. As it is when I see another country that stands as one man behind their folks.

So I can understand Valv.Piti and Netserk very well on this, but also the Danes who just cheer for him no matter what are right i.m.o.

I wouldn't mind to see Fuglsang do well and Astana will be in a good position in the third week if the two GC riders can keep riding like they are at the moment. I think the podium positions won't be decided till late in the race. So far the riders seem pretty even on the climbs.

I am neither an Astana fan or a Dane and I like Fuglsang

Isn't it sad, then, to get to know that what you do (cheer for him) isn't worth it?

What a sad hater you are :D - and your english is terrible

Enjoy the rest of the tour buddy, plenty of chances yet, for you to demonstrate exactly what you are :)

Say what? I don't hate on anybody (except maybe a bit upon Netserk's absolutistic almightiness which my sarcastic comment was directed towards).

As to my English being terrible, I respectfully disagree.

He doesn't fit, does he? But he's been improving every year, and he's still young by cycling standards. Who Knows. A more interesting example is Jalabert who started out as a sprinter and became a very good GC rider, winning both the Spanish and Italian giros.

Jalabert won Il Giro? That's news to me :p

How is it sad? I just don't cheer for him, I liked him a lot when he was younger and thought he actually could do great thing, but he has let himself and his fans down too many times the last years. Decent in 2013, was good in 2014 but it didn't lead anywhere for various reasons, cracked completely on the stage after PSM in 2015, huge recovery problems/too early peak in 2016. All these occasions he had the green light to stay high in the GC and nothing to do with Nibali. I fear for him its 2016-Giro all over again.

To be fair, he did win Dauphiné. That is a massive step up.

2 small fractures in his elbow and wrist. Hopefully it won't affect his effort tomorrow too much.
Really?
Any link confirming this?
I read on cyclingnews he's not injured...

Bad bad bad bad bad news...
What is it with GC riders this year?
:( :(
Half of the race is still left and not even half are left standing..So Sick!

Yes, it started on the very first day, with Valverde crashing out. Too bad for Jakob. I remember Cadel Evans struggling to finish a TDF some years back with a hairline fracture. The pain just kept getting worse with each stage.

Indeed, deserves huge probs, but I think that leads back to peaking too early. And now we don't even know if that injury is serious... rotten luck for Fuglsang.

Maybe it was good that he peaked early. I think a victory in the Dauphiné and a 6th-7th place in the Tour is better than an anonymous placing in the Dauphiné and a 4th-5th place in the Tour. That is what he realistically could have hoped for, I think, but of course with this insane amount of bad luck for GC contenders, the podium spots are wide open - although he himself seems to have wasted that opportunity with his injuries.

Not a great Tour for injuries and falls. Valverde, Porte, Majka,Gesink, Thomas already gone. Martin lucky to be still in the race. Contador and now Fulsgang with issues. Might be another third place coming up for Quintana if this keeps happening !
