And me. "Representing" for tall men everywhere. Or something. Showed that it's not just malnourished munchkins who can climb well.
Although I hated that ridiculous ear ring.

Angliru said:Possibly. I got the impression that Ullrich was respectful of all of his opponents. I can't recall any bad mouthing of his opponents coming from Jan. He seemed to be understated and modest for the most part. I personally hated the fat jokes and lack of fitness/dedication to training statements made about Jan, primarily because he rarely responded in anger. I'm a bit biased because I was always rooting for Jan and to this day wish he had fessed up, served his time and came back to the sport. To me he was rather refreshing when compared to Armstrong's constant attention chasing.

palmerq said:isnt jan like banned for life because op would be his 2nd doping offence... he was banned before wasnt he for amphetimines.. I cant remember now but I´m sure he´ll never be allowed back.
Angliru said:I don't think so. I recall him being rumoured to be joining Rock Racing after Rudy signed up but he denied any interest in coming back to the sport at that time.

Neworld said:Never Quitting: I think the most enviable attribute of Jans was that he never quit. Remember when Jan crashed through the back of his team car, cutting his neck wide open and bleeding all over the place, the day before the opening prologue on his most recent TdF? That shows his tenacity. He attacked whenever he could and would power up mountain over and over hammering in pain. What cyclist cannot relate to the struggle of cycling and Jan's courage?
Neworld said:Teams in the TdF: Jan was mostly on teams that supported a sprinter(EZ) and arguably were never as good and the Postal/Disco teams. JB/LA routinely took riders off Telecom. And, JB/LA made TTTs their focus as they knew that if after the TTT they put a few minutes of time(and bonus time) into Jan all they had to do was tempo ride in the mountains, burn off Jan's weaker teammates and the TdF was over. Watch the movies.
El Imbatido said:On this point the main one that sticks out for me is Manuel Beltran in 2003. He was signed for Team Coast (who eventually became Team Bianchi) but after they folded he was snapped up by JB and LA to ride tempo up the highest and hardest mountains and unsurprisingly he was able to do that all day and be right up there near the end. Nothing sort of like he was in the last couple of years.
I think if Jan had had just a bit better support that year he would have had a real good chance at beating Armstrong

1 US Postal presented by Berry Floor 1.18.27 (52.77 km/h)
2 O.N.C.E.-Eroski 0.30
3 Team Bianchi 0.43
Also that day to Luz Ardiden he made a stupid attack on the tourmalet when really he could of saved that attack to respond to armstrong's move.

Let's guess Ullrich will return to cycling speedy, that will be the transfer of the year !
