It wouldn't be surprising if he retires at mid-stage tomorrow due to pain.
Many riders start the next day but don't finish the stage.

A fractured rib can cause pain when breathing and when riding.

Above all, he needs to avoid accidents because another crash could cause serious damage.
He must stay at the back of the pack the whole time, and with a few kilometers left, stay back and finish and finish in the control time.

He needs to quit. In these sorts of situations I reckon there needs to be an independent medical team than makes a unilateral ruling to withdraw the rider - no matter what the rider or his team say.
I don't agree with this. His team should be responsible enough to take him out if he is too injured. But he isn't, right now, and they will see how he behave tomorrow.

I guess he will be able to ride his bike but probably his performance will be heavily affected. It's hard to imagine top form Almeida in 6 days on Hautacam. The next few days won't be a rest. They may withdraw him tomorrow or on Sunday.

He'll be fine, just some tape and viola .

The fractured rib will decide. If it is a hairline fracture he might be okay. But if any damage to adjoining tissue there is nothing that can be done except maybe pain killing injections. Likely the trauma which caused the fracture also damaged surrounding tissues. Even a bruised rib is very painful to ride with.
A bruised rib often is even more painful. But like you said, depends on the fracture. And what rib. He could very well be fine enough to continue, or at least try and see how it goes tomorrow. He'll feel pretty early on in the stage if he can continue or not I'd imagine.

With his tenacity I fear he'd suffer too much. I wish they just sent him home. Case close.

He's had enough race days to deserve it.

Maybe the doctor has never been a rider because even an 'uncomplicated' fractured rib is bad for peak cycling performance - worse than the cracked broken arm that Tyler Hamilton was famous for. At threshold on a mountain and using close to maximum lung capacity that would be excruciating.
Just broke some ribs a few weeks ago mountain biking. My climbing performance went in the toilet, and not from the pain. Just the body recovering saps a lot of strength.

As I mentioned earlier, so does Vauquelin. He seems to be doing pretty well though. And he's going for his own GC. Almeida can just take it easy now the next two stages.

Of course, if he does experience a lot of discomfort because of his rib tomorrow he should go home, but I see no harm in at least getting on the bike tomorrow and see how it goes.

I remember when my father fractured ribs in one fall. He suffered pain for multiple weeks before visiting doctor. He could barely take our dog for a walk and having troubles sleeping due to pain and breathing problems. I can not imagine what it must feel on a bike in one of worlds most demanding races :/
